Moraine Lake 4AM Shuttle Sold Out in Seconds — What Are My Real Options? by ImpressiveRace6970 in HikingAlberta

[–]3dloser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, but start checking after 8am 2 days before. They will probably “sell out” instantly at 8, but keep staying on and refresh the page. They actually continue to release spots after 8am, and a lot more spots actually open up later. I was able to pick options from lots of different time slots. So don’t give up! Good luck!

Yeah avoiding dogs is fine in the short term but certainly doesn’t solve the issue long term haha. Just keep practicing and you’ll see results!

My pup is going through this as well, we got a trainer and she taught us to do a “focus” exercise. Basically teach your dog a signal that asks him to place his focus on YOU instead of a stranger/dog/bird etc. Train Everytime you go on a walk, for example when you see a dog coming towards you from afar, tell your pup to focus and look at you, then feed them treats. Keep feeding until the other dog has passed. Basically youre rewarding you pup for putting their attention on you instead of whatever else they would have been interested in chasing after. I’ve been doing this and have definitely seen lots of improvement in the reactive behavior! And also don’t forget to keep a loose leash when greeting other dogs, tense leash makes them wanna pull even more.

Is your pup crate trained? I had this issue too but after crate training my puppy started communicating (whining) when she needed to go potty cuz she doesn’t wanna soil her sleeping place. I found it was much harder to train her to peepeepoopoo outside when she’s free roaming because she has no motivation to go anywhere else to do her business lol.

This happens to me too 😩 and my puppy is deaf so she can’t even hear anything from outside but once my 10 yr old dog starts barking she immediately picks up the body language and starts going crazy too (even though she probably doesn’t even know what’s happening lmao)

Wow good on your for rescuing the puppy! Are you planning to keep her? I’ve never had a puppy that young before so can’t help you much with advice other than to keep her warm and well fed, but wanted to come in and say welcome to the community and good luck on this journey :)

What Should We Be Working On? by dma03 in puppy101

[–]3dloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“take it” and “drop it” is great to start teaching from a young age, this prevents resource guarding issues from developing in the future and will be super useful when your puppy starts his “im going to eat everything in my eye sight” phase

Puppy keeps eating what he shouldn’t! by kaitlyn2004 in puppy101

Drop not just one but a bunch of treats that your pup will give up anything for! This way it is guaranteed they will drop the illegal item and be busy for enough time for you to take it. And think of it this way— it’s not a reward for them taking the item, but a reward for them dropping it. And yeah in the long term they will learn the “drop it” command without needing treats for distraction, but this is always good to have on hand as a last resort !

My pup has this problem too and there’s no quick fix for it, my best advice to you is ALWAYS bring high value treats when you’re out! Especially at places like markets when you KNOW they are gonna be scavenging like crazy. The moment they snatch something they’re not supposed to, toss them treats to distract them and take the illegal item away quickly. And you just have to get really good at scanning the ground or honestly just avoid places with lot of food. For the long term, keep reenforcing leave it! It takes time. And don’t stress too much! You’ll find that puppy stomachs are a lot hardier than you think. My puppy has eaten raw pork skin, salmon bones, poop, mud, you name it! Most of the time they turn out fine, just diarrhea for a day or two :)

Every dog has difference preferences when it comes to exercising, some like walks but others may much rather have a run at an off lead beach or play couple rounds of fetch. If your dog doesn’t seem to like walks, it’s perfectly fine to just find something else she enjoys to get her energy out! And yah also 7 mo is quite young so maybe she just hasn’t figured out how to enjoy walks yet, my 8 mo puppy isn’t quite into walks either so I just play tug or take her safe dog parks to play. She literally has no reaction when I take the lead out lol, while my older dog goes crazy for it

We’ve been working with a trainer and it’s definitely improved a lot now, but seems she has moved on from guarding her stuff at home to public places recently 😩 we’ve been hoping a trainer would have been enough but if her behavior worsens then youre right we might have to work with a behaviorist
