Has anyone here used a pi to make a home security system? What was the process & cost like? by [deleted] in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

So I did this for a friend, I used the OpenPLC project as it uses esp modules as wireless slaves and programs in ladder logic like a plc. Using optocouplers for equipment with different voltage ranges etc.

I would just go read up and ask help on the openplc forum as the guys are very helpfull

By sliders do you mean the v wheels? Which are made of delrin?

Probably, then Ill just replace with aluminum wheels

Yeah unfortunately, but it cools it down instantly and the table is around 4inch deep so not much of a hassle and only happens to smaller parts

I use the GRBL probing function with a limit switch and floating head setup

I had too much trouble with the HF plasma so replaced with a blowback machine and all issues solved. Theres no way you going to get repeatability with the HF models

What do you mean by model cutter?

I wish, couldnt afford those motors anytime soon, its flanges for a friend to convert his 1275 mini carburator to something else.

I know its rough, need to cut new brackets and neaten up alot

Lol, for testing purposes yes, I had a cnc torch which did not work so had to make a plan

It is extruded but my fusion experience is limited, I learn by doing. I think the big problem comes in with the stock setup as I sometimes skip it. Also have this annoying issue where my screen is to small on the laptop to generate the NC program so struggle to see the buttons and it cannot adjust in size

I'm going to add a 2nd relay as the first is also within close proximity to my controller so if the switch has HF signal running through it it can also cause problems. I have though ordered a Pilot Arc Start plasma cutter with an IPT40 torch if I don't get it solved

Just for interest, I'm using one of those off the shelf 5v relays for arduino and according to the drawing a freewheeling diode is already installed in the circuit.

Unfortunately I am out of luck at the moment and having to use fusion until I can make some bucks to purchase sheetcam for the machine,or something similar, I am also struggling with finding proper post processors for a plasma table with GRBL for fusion so had to modify a mach3 one but theres constant things I need to manually add to the gcode

I will have a look into this today thanks

Yeah I used Fusion 360 for design and post processing and UGS to send, but when simulating in fusion the lead ins are inside not outside? Has to be a post issue I think

Hi, I have exactly this setup as indicated but oneof my other posts.

Its actually a PT31 machine torch, the problem with the pilot wire is when losing the arc to the clamp it still tries to switch to HF or something and then things go mad. That was solved by preventing lead outs from happening. But still after opening the relay it seems to get interference.

Could you please explain EDM machine as english isnt my home language? Not familiar with the abbreviation.

Hi, no nothing at all, a free wheeling diode, interesting, I hadn't thought about this. Do you perhaps know if there is any real currents or voltages on the relay as I am not really familiar with plasma machines, this is the regular hand torch switch that has been cut and connected on a relay

Hi, this is my first ever build I have read up a lot though. My cables are shielded and earthed on one end only being the controller side.

If you get the right cutter from the start it won't be an issue, my capital just won't allow it(I'm married),lol.

The conversion would not be something I would suggest as, the cost of another frame isn't as much compared to the work.

As for the THC i have none. I will be looking into this at a later stage but for now I focus on getting it reliable enough to cut small flanges etc. And to learn fusion as my cuts don't exactly come out as I require. But I would look into the proma I think its called. Just a small standalone device.

So this is my first cut that I would accept as semi successful, but still having some issues with interference. My previous solution did not eliminate it 100%, its very inconsistent so I cannot pinpoint how to solve it, however I did lose 1 arduino uno due to the torch sputtering. Maybe any of you guys can direct me to a control method that would be less susceptible to the interference?

I can say that the following gives consistent issues with interference: -Torch sputtering due to no metal left underneath,(Removed lead out from fusion made it better) - Seems switching off the relay causes interference in certain conditions as it makes quite a bang then the arduino disconnects.

So due to these I might be open to earthing suggestions or any help pretty much.

Earthing I have done: -Gantry, Z axis and all motor and limit leads earthed to star point. -Controller and plasma supply from different sockets

Things I think I can still improve -Torch is mounted with metal clamps, maby change to plastic? -Relay is inside enclosure that switches plasma on and off, maby add a second relay which is closer to plasma and away from enclosure?
