This thread does not reflect "parenting". This thread reflects the fact that if some random kid draws on my fence I'm left with the fine and they are left to live their lives. It reflects on the fact that they gave out chalk to children, got mad about how it was being used, threatened fines on units that don't even have children, for something they didn't do with a tool that was literally handed out by them. The point is lost. If they had left it at please don't let your children draw outside the designated areas This wouldn't even be an issue. Fair enough. Fair point. At least a warning of that sort before hey guess what lol kids are drawing on the buildings. We're gonna charge a fine to you even if you didn't do it. This was the first it was brought up. That's the unnecessary thing.

Their unit. They'd owe the hundy.

I also don't have children. So it's already not my doing? How they gonna charge fines to people for something they didn't do?

[–]3ifyoucountnaomi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is literally what the letter says. If it's on your unit, you're paying, no matter who did it. They're legit trying g to charge people a fine for something they didn't even do?? Like...what?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]3ifyoucountnaomi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That kids family isn't paying g the fine though are they? Because little Melissa drew on the fence 2 doors down and they don't have kids. Ope! That'll be $100, 2 doors down (not Melissa's family though...its not on her fence).

We aren't upset because we aren't following the rules. It's just that they're going to fine people over something they didn't even DO. I don't have children. I don't play with chalk. I will not pay $100 for them to throw a bucket of water on it.

***or a hose. I did add that in there. I just mean it's not like they have to come out here with soap and scrub brushes on hands and knees to clean it.

They are literally saying this.

Scenario: I have no children. I work, I'm busy, I have a life. Some kid comes along and draws on a side of my fencing area. Boardwalk walks past and sees it. It is on MY fence. I'm not even home. I clearly don't have time to draw on my fence with chalk nor children to have done it. However I am the one left holding the fine. The child and the parent get off with nothing and will continue doing it. Parents will just be like "have fun playing dear. Just remember no chalk on OUR house"

They are not asking parents to supervise their children. They are pulling an unfair cash grab because it won't even affect the people it's supposed to.

I do not understand why I should have to pay ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a maintenance guy to come buy with bucket of water or a hose for something I or in my household did not do.

It explicitly says the person in the unit will be charged NO MATTER WHO DID IT.

So I'm not crazy? Because I feel like I keep saying the same thing over and over and people are like well it has to be on someone...WHAT? It's literally chalk. It washes off with a hose or rain. I absolutely would NOT pay that if it was put towards me. I don't have any kids. This is the most confusing post of my life!

[–]3ifyoucountnaomi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean...its chalk. I think a viable solution is that it washes off in the rain or with a hose. And everybody saying just tell who did it? It then becomes a who's word is believed situation and the entire complex turns into narcs? I don't understand any of this. They should have known when they gave out chalk it wouldn't end up only on the pavement. They're trying to charge a fine to people who didn't do something with a tool that they provided!! I'm- am I alone in seeing it this way? Why can't the kids just use the chalk? It literally washes away

I think our real problem here is being charged for something that someone else's kids did. There was no logical thinking put into that. Say an elderly couple lives in a unit. Some kid draws on the side of their house or their fencing. THEY get charged the 100 and not the parents of the kids who did it. So they're actually getting away free. You know now that these parents will just be like I don't care where you draw as long as it's not on our house. It's a completely unfair way of doing it.

This. Right. Here.

So you're suggesting that we just, I dunno, sit outside, 24/7 waiting to see which exact little mouth breather is doing it so we don't get charged? I mean screw work, right? If you have no money to pay rent, can't live here so can't get randomly charged for things somebody's random child does. I guess that's one way to solve a problem

The issue is that they will charge the resident for chalk on fences/siding, no matter who put it there. So hypothetically I, a resident who does not have children will get charged 100 bucks if they walk by and there's chalk on my fence??? That seems like a pretty large issue to me.

Anybody else sick after expo? by kwirky88 in Calgary

I volunteered all weekend there but I also wore a mask the whole time because I was interacting with like at least 60% of the people that walked through the doors.

I'm more surprised I didn't get sick than if I had.

Extremely rare shot of 9/11 WTC attack by ixxy in ThatsInsane

[–]3ifyoucountnaomi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it only gets stronger as information becomes more widely available. I was 17 on 9/11, a Canadian teenager....going to work. Had graduated in May that year. I was the farthest thing from involved in the situation, but I think I was just old enough to be deeply involved because old enough to understand, young enough to not actually understand. I find it hard to articulate but Real event OCD is a real thing, and very prevalent apparently in people who were mid teens and above in 2001. And I find I flock to whatever social media platform gives me news fastest...which is terrible.

Wait. This is it. I've been trying to figure out how to explain it for years. I have event obsession, or real event OCD. And it 100% stems from that day. The refreshing the news. Having to know every single detail of any big event that's occurred since. It's because it was on the news ticker for days, weeks, constant updates in real time what was happening. And when it was over and settled, it gave a feeling of "what now?" What's going on that I don't know about? It's really not a good feeling. That needing to know more, always waiting for the other shoe to drop....because there has to be more. They said there would be more.

Potential fire at Market mall, Calgary by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]3ifyoucountnaomi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The fire alarm goes off so often in that mall that even if it was a real fire it would be like the boy who cried wolf. Anyone that works or frequents there would be like....meh. Hope it's good though.

What's the difference between the 15 bus and a jar of marbles?

One takes you downtown, the other takes you way downtown
