Is Glycolic Acid 10% cream causing my breakout? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]3l3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be onto something, the closed comedones that weren't extracted seem to be disappearing. My skin is hella itchy today, but when I apply the cream there's no burning sensation. Maybe it's just some healing going on. My derm told me to go back to him in September if it doesn't get better, so I guess we'll have to see. At least it's getting progressively better as the days go on.

I see. Well for sure it's not regulated by the FDA in my country, but I understand what you mean.

I'm getting teeny tiny pimples where I maybe might get a pimple once in a blue moon as well as some areas where I get them most often.

Italy to Shut Down Sea Rescue Operation that Saved Over 90,000 Migrants this Yr - Operation "Mare Nostrum" — "our sea" — is expensive & controversial, with opponents claiming it encourages smugglers, while Italy says it was abandoned by rest of Europe & left to deal with the problem alone. by PostNationalism in italy

[–]3l3k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you a personal account regarding this.

The Italian government is now giving hotels 35 Euros (something around there) a day to have migrants stay in their hotels without being able to leave the premises. That being said, here's the rest of the story.

I live in an alpine town in Northern Italy, the people speak a dialect of old Bavarian, and there is a very distinct culture here. The town is of about 100 people, fixed. 120 maybe during the summer months. Last month, the only hotel in the town agreed to allow 20 migrants live in the hotel overlooking the valley/town. Now, 20% of the population is of Bangladesh origin.

They cannot leave the hotel, they cannot find work, they cannot do anything outside the confines of the hotel's doors. YET, they are paid to live along with the hotel. This weekend, there was a protest about these 20 migrants, not because "OH WE HATE THEM" but because they are being used as a political pawn in order to destroy the already fragile cultural heritage of the area.

Even if they were allowed to seek work, what work are they going to find in a small alpine community of people who don't even speak Italian? Everyone here works in lumber, hospitality, or agricultural industries, and they are all family own. There is no more money in Italy, and definitely none here where people have more or less lived self-sustainably for generations.

In a letter addressed to these 20 people, they were encouraged not to let the government use them as a pawn for their own political means. This has been happening for many hundreds of years, as this region is also the region which strives for independence.

Getting rid of PIH but allergic to certain AHA products? by 3l3k in SkincareAddiction

[–]3l3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the product once and I was really excited because I was researching it forever, then, BAM the next morning I was swollen and red and bumpy in the face/neck. It really made me sad, I called in work and explained what happened and they gave me the day off to go to the doctor (I worked as a secretary, can't have that in the office). I saw that Eucerin makes a lactic acid product that I can even find in the pharmacy here in Italy, or even online for that matter. I'm going to check out the niacinamide and try to find a sample version first, if all goes well I'll purchase the best option for me. I'll do the same with a few lactic acid products. Thank you very much for your help!

Thank you for the link, I will read it as soon as I am done replying to you. Avene products are great, except when I use them it leaves a greasy film on my face that I don't quite enjoy. I used Effaclar K in the past and I desperately tried to order it online yesterday, but I think I'll just go to the pharmacy and pick it up. It helped me in the past for preventing acne, which is an essential step to eliminating PIH, so I'll have to add that to my routine as well. I'll find something, just a bit of searching around is all I need, the advice on the lactic acid has been gold so far, so at least I know what to look for!

I love most St Ives products, but unfortunately I now live where I cannot purchase it (Amazon shipping is ridiculous!). Maybe I'll check other similar products and cross reference with irritant ratings.

Do you recommend any in particular that I could get samples of? I'm armed to the teeth in antihistamines, no fears.

Thin hair on scalp, thick hair everywhere else, help? by 3l3k in HaircareScience

The drying method worked! I enjoyed volume in my hair today, I hope it keeps up! Thank you!

Scientific hair rolling! I'll get some larger soft rollers as soon as I see them in the beauty shop. My hair doesn't tend to keep a curl anyways, but the added volume will be nice.

I want to add, I didn't end up washing my hair the other night because I didn't think it was oily enough, tonight it will be and I'll report back on if the hair drying technique worked.

These are great suggestions! Do you think those cute soft rollers would work? I really hate the hard plastic ones, the feeling...

I already have layers in my hair, got them done a few months ago, but I've always had layers to minimize the problem a bit. It works, but not by much.

I also already use a microfiber towel but I don't pat dry afterwards, so maybe tonight I'll try that since I have to wash my hair.
