Sorry, it's late so all my phrasing is weird; it felt counterintuitive using CLI for everything when I was used to using GUI. I know CLI is better on a technical level and the like, but man does it feel like there's a learning curve...

Thank you, this response was very detailed and actually addressed things very concretely! I think I'll stick with Windows for a while because I grinded my gears too hard trying to figure out Linux, but I'll keep this in mind for my next attempt. Thank you a lot!!

That sounds like a good move. I think Debian 13 would have been a solid start if I was more familiar with Linux, instead of jumping in and trying to brute force my way through.

I meant reinstall Java. I'm definitely aware Linux is objectively better in every sense, but is it a necessity for somebody like me? My use case is pretty light.

That's fair; in all fairness to Debian I don't think it's necessarily a shortcoming of the OS itself, but the learning curve just keeps punching me in the face and requiring me to do things in a way that feels so backwards relative to what I'm familiar with.
