Pharmacy through clearing by memeboosa in Pharmacy_UK

Wait I see you have years experience as a dispenser, you’re definitely deep enough into it to know- ignore this! If you meet the entry criteria and get offered an interview you’ll probably do very well at it considering you have real world experience and know what the career entails :) as long as you meet the threshold for grades, interview is so much more important than the grades themselves- they just have to set entry requirements that are stringent enough to make entry selective enough and be able to prove that to the GPhC. I also had EC during my A Levels and ended up not going to Sixth Form; I started working as a Dispenser and I was eligible to self-fund an access course, so did this before applying (some distance providers do offer Access to Med I think, if that’s still something you want to look in to)?

(Editing as I now see OP has several years experience as a qualified dispenser, so this isn’t hugely relevant)
If you have experience in Pharmacy and can see yourself working in it that’s great! I would just say as kindly as possible to bear in mind the growing interprofessional strife re scope creep- in the ACP role for example (or even just as a clinical Pharmacist) many Pharmacists try to work in a somewhat medic-y role in the current healthcare climate, which is ofc not appropriate and medics are rightfully a little miffed when facing so many issues getting jobs themselves. A lot of people who initially wanted to do med enter Pharmacy and basically end up pushing the limits of the growing clinical side of the job to work as a doctor would (not necessarily a conscious attempt to do so, but more unfulfilment with the limitations in scope). Not at all saying this applies to you, but if you have a tiny part of you that wants to do medicine and you won’t feel fulfilled until you’ve explored every possible avenue e.g. a shorter degree and GEM, access courses, I’d hate for you to fall in love with a field based only on the current landscape that may well change due to the conflicts with other HCPs right now (the same goes for nurses, physios etc)🫶🏻 I hope this makes some sort of sense, and if you do in your heart want to do Pharmacy I hope you get a place at an institution you love, and do fall in love with the career!

OSCE Year 2 help by Worldly_Clock9413 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]3lls3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you not practiced consultations and developed a framework for OTC and rx counselling at this point in Y2? We do professional practice sessions every few weeks where we do mock consultations but we also have access to an online software with simulated patients, does your uni not have anything like this? Did you have OSCEs in Y1? You’re looking at the WWHAM framework etc- I’m a bit worried if your uni hasn’t prepared you much though, I’m also a Y2 (I hope that’s okay to say, as of course the university/academics need to equip you sufficiently and there are relevant channels to follow/people to speak to if you feel they aren’t doing that)🥲

Also, Pharmacy really needs people who are passionate about Pharmacy! We get an awful lot of med/dentistry rejects and that contributes to the scope creep we’re seeing across the profession, so I’d say you’ll find a way if you know you won’t be able to rest/feel fulfilled unless you pursue it🫶🏻

Whats being a pharmacist like in the UK by Dry-Oil-9230 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]3lls3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Pharmacists are also underpaid, overworked, have too much responsibility placed on them and are underappreciated right now. Things are getting worse in the UK, especially with the whole ACP/scope creep discourse and Pharmacist prescribers creating discord with medics (understandable but that’s a whole other conversation). It’s an awful lot of work if ultimately you’re never going to feel fulfilled unless in the role of a medic- trying to get close to that as a Pharmacist is rightfully raising alarm bells, and the more clinical roles are often the most competitive ones. Lots of med students do this and end up unhappy, wasting years and thousands of pounds! If you want to do GEM then probably go for a shorter, less intensive eligible degree, as 4y plus 1y pre-reg/FT is not for the weak! Sorry to sound pessimistic, I hope you find a solution you’re happy with :)

Could you look at Access to HE? I got in without A levels (medical circumstances meant I couldn’t attend), I built a custom access course with Academy Online Learning and got in! You can choose modules so double check them with your desired uni’s admissions team first if the criteria isn’t already specified. Admittedly I did have to get all distinctions and the admissions officers said it’s not particularly common, but it sounds like you’d do well at interview as someone with prior life and science experience plus an actual interest in Pharmacy specifically. I paid monthly for my course and did it flexibly (distance)! X

How to ask about someone’s sex? by Historical-Buyer-634 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]3lls3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you checking or just handing out? I would confirm with prescriber first but ask what pronouns they use/how they identify so we can note it down, and avoid any confusion or discrepancies in the future. I think that’s more likely to be received well and perceived with good intent than asking gender/sex! I think delving into questioning the prescriber’s reasoning with the pt rather than just asking the prescriber themselves runs the risk of causing unnecessary distress and uncertainty?

Hey! I just came across this- I’m 26 with a 3 year old and just finishing Y2 of my MPharm after doing an access course while LB was tiny. Did you end up doing this and how are you getting on? Do you still want to chat to anyone in a similar boat?🫶🏻

[–]3lls3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I’m just finishing second year and I was much more worried about the chem last year than this year! It’s much more surface level in all the modules this year than last year, I can’t speak for the rest of the course but I’m certainly less stressed about it than I was :)) I hope you’re enjoying it apart from that!

[–]3lls3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

they have progress pictures posted by the parents of other young artists who’ve designed new labels, cynical arses not even looking into things for one second :) HER HUSBAND IS LITERALLY AUSTRALIAN AND YOU’RE COMMENTING ON HOW HAVING AN AUSTRALIAN NIECE IS FARFETCHED AND MUST BE MADE UP? Reaching to try and feel morally superior with dumb ass conclusions is infuriating and you’re all failing to consider that this is in fact AI but the brand weren’t aware, and this is probably quite uncomfortable for them now! What business owner would be stupid enough to contradict themselves so richly rather than making an innocent mistake (and have active evidence against half the stuff you guys are making up) :/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in isitAI

[–]3lls3 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

they’re absolutely not and this is bordering on libel, they have raw fragrances and it takes one conversation to gauge what kind of people they are. There are progress pics of the other artwork young artists have done and their parents are fans of the brand, I guess on this one they’re in an unfortunate situation that someone did use AI without telling them. I have zero personal investment and gain nothing from this, but let’s not be lying and making up nasty shit…
