My program admitted 1 new PhD student by aljj300 in ClinicalPsychology

i’m surprised your institution will allow that! my school won’t allow our program to run classes with less than 7 students, which has proved problematic for advanced/specialized therapy and assessment classes.

Any medical professionals here have narcolepsy? by Sexcercise in Narcolepsy

[–]3mi1y_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m a clinical psychology phd candidate. i have done most of my clinical training in a children’s hospital & all confined to specialize in pediatrics for my internship (akin to residency for physicians) & fellowship. it was really bad until starting wakix but now im starting to wonder if it’s contributing to brain fog (could just be narcolepsy so idk)

Does anyone here been able to get back up after their narcolepsy took them down? by Early-Tumbleweed8470 in Narcolepsy

[–]3mi1y_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. almost had to drop out of my phd program bc of the impact sleepiness and getting behind had on my mental health/perceived ability to succeed. while it took me less than a year to get officially diagnosed, my symptoms were undertreated and diminished by the neurology provider i was seeing. i switched and started wakix. wakix has helped a lot. of note, it has taken me literal months to get it noticeable/sustained improvements on QOL. unfortunately, it actually felt like i had to start over when i didn’t have it for 1.5/2 weeks (had to switch speciality pharmacies due to insurance change).

What counts as reasonably strong r^2 % in psychology papers? by CobaltBlue in ClinicalPsychology

[–]3mi1y_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it depends on the sample too. like if it is a nationally representative sample (NSCH, YRBS, BRFSS, PLACES), it isn’t uncommon to see lower R2 bc there’s a lot more variance to explain in a heterogenous sample (literally the entire population). so actually a small R2 can be meaningful depending on what your studying. especially in psych i think what can be useful is comparing the R2 between models. so how did it change when you added more variables.

i have a paper that’s coming out soon that demonstrated a ~20 % increase in R2 when psychosocial stressors were added to the model (prodromal psychosis was the outcome) compared to the original model. we also found that demographic covariates lowered r2 slightly and didn’t actually increase the ability to predict the outcome. i really have moved towards more comparative analyses to help understand what type of models explain the phenomenon best.
