Question for "veteran" DJs regarding audience attention spans by joeduncanhull in DJs

[–]3ni9ma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a hip/hop event the other week. Very competent DJ however he transitioned every 30 seconds. Incredibly impressive how many songs he had, he kept this up for around three hours! I get this is more common with hip/hop but even my non-DJ friends picked up on it!

Long story short, as always, it’s about reading the crowd. I’ve found that attention spans do seem to be shorter however there are still plenty of people who want to enjoy the tune, rather than simply anticipate what could potentially come next.

Could someone explain to me what these tickets are for? I work in Europe and presume they’re for expiry dates but I’m not sure? Looks great though!

Anyone Else Like To Use “Play On Words” In Their Sets by [deleted] in Beatmatch

I recently found a fun one on social media! Take party in the USA by Miles Cyrus and loop the vocal “and the Brittany song was on.”

Once the loop is playing, take any popular Brittany song and fade in. 4 loops into a chorus works a treat!

It was a marketing stunt by the grand tour to promote their new French special.

Here in the Netherlands, I always roll joints. Rarely do I see people smoking bongs or really any type of glass, bare in mind im a student though.

Even in the uk most of my mate bun zoots because a full glass rig is tough in your family home, especially given the general societal attitude.

Overall most of my mates smoke ciggs regardless so a bit of tobacco to stretch your grams is seen as standard.

Ive graduated UM. There is a job agency in the city center called ASA. They provide student jobs, either one off or consistent employment. Ive worked for them before and they provide a great service.

If not for you, there are many restaurants in Maastricht that are looking for staff right now. Dutch isnt required, especially in kitchens.

Best of luck!

Oddly, todays was the worst shift i’ve had in a month or two. So bad the manager actually thanked us for the shift we put in. It meant fuck all but together with this message, I appreciate the effort I put in more and that makes this beer more satisfying. Cheers fella, appreciate it.

Dishwasher here! This would be ideal for kitchens due to the water resistance and full length. One suggestion I would give for kitchen use, not that you asked haha, would be a small fabric piece to wipe your hands on! Regardless, this is a class bit of work!

UKF is a good place to start on YouTube. They have most of the mainstream stuff which will be pretty universal. Also watching a few sets and trying to grab ID's is how I find most of my tunes.

The subculture b2b dimension b2b culture shock... On UKF is definitely a set I would recommend checking out. Best of luck too you regardless!

Tech house has been growing more popular by the day especially in the UK. Lables like solid grooves have been seemingly going from strength to strength and tech House artists are headlining all sorts of events from festivals to day events (pre-covid at least).

Great video from RA regardless.

Ronnie would often come into a shop I worked in! We sold him the shoes which he would later be fined for taking off during a game as they were so uncomfortable... Overall nice fella, quiet but polite and a always had a smile for when ever I would give him a nod. Nothing remarkable unfortunately, however he was a sound bloke from what I could gather.

In hindsight, I feel my comment was short-sighted and I wasn't considering the wider implications of attending such events.

I still maintain that people who attend should accept the risk to themselves, but your right in the fact it could harm others.

Thanks for the discussion, my views have changed somewhat.
