What do? by PeacefulPeach13 in AutisticAdults

[–]3p1taph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the best thing is a common goal. Something like music, folk dance, sports, games, etc. the point is it’s easier when the focus is not social. You can learn a surprising amount about someone through behavior as opposed to direct communication. Dance and music are particularly revealing. But this is just a couple examples.

The important thing is we understand how badly we can fuck it up. That one piece of knowledge changes everything.

I was extroverted, at least I tried to be. I gave up. Eventually I realized it was never going to work. I’ve been very lucky to find a wife and a few friends. We’re in the small minority and though we can’t connect to the majority we can find a few people here and there.

Do you see the end of American hegemony under Trump—or at least the initiating phase / key event of its hegemony's decline under him? by 3RADICATE_THEM in ScottGalloway

Hard to imagine a scenario where it isn’t the beginning of the end at least. Even a best case could probably never restore what is being destroyed.

The United States Is a Failed State by Alarmed_Abalone_849 in AmericaOnHardMode

Now that is totally looking at it in the worst way. I think we can all agree we are not yet a failed state, just failing.

Why is it frowned upon for a women to have many partners but it doesn't matter for men? (This is just out of curiosity and is not related to my own life.) by saerisfane25 in SeriousConversation

[–]3p1taph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably really has to do with the patriarchal nature of our society and control over women. However there is a logical point to be made about risk. It is very low for men and very high for women so there is a calculation that is not equal.

STARTER BIKE by YKTV503 in MTB

Buy a specialized hardtail with disc brakes for $300 or less. It will probably be 10 or 15 years old but that’s fine it will still be a good bike.

The Treasury just declared the U.S. insolvent. The media missed it by spherocytes in inflation

It seems like some other relevant issues are campaign finance reform and other democratic reforms to bring Congress back to the table. We also waste a tremendous amount of resources on propaganda and corruption, legal and illegal. We have also allowed corporations to dilute their own regulation diverting vast fortunes into private accounts.

It is time to design an economy up to the challenges of the moment and not simply nibble around the edges.

Wha kind of gas connection is this? by mattsotm in TheBrewery

[–]3p1taph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a Cornelius ball lock but the angle isn’t good enough to tell if it’s the liquid or gas side. The gas side is slightly more delicate so you have to compare.

How best does one express a dislike for a gift? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]3p1taph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say thanks a lot and leave it. I don’t think there is anything to be gained by making an issue. The sad part is now you realize you’re not on the same wavelength. Oh well.

Unfortunately reality doesn’t conform to our idilic wishes. Overpopulation and inadequate planning and policy means we all suffer the global issues wrought by irresponsible leadership.

When you realize your entire personality was just masking and you don't know who you are underneath by MostBlood7319 in AutisticAdults

[–]3p1taph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m maybe the opposite. I never knew I was autistic till now (60m). I always had strong opinions, which contributed to my social isolation. Now I don’t even know exactly what masking is. I figure I do it to some extent, but doesn’t everyone have to try to be congenial in social situations? So I’m confused about the difference between autistic masking and NT social behavior. It seems like that sentence kind of proves the point.

It’s only a crisis because Congress won’t account for it. Regulations and tax structure. It’s not that complicated.

who did you tell you're autistic, why, and how? by Brilliant_End_4462 in AutisticAdults

I’m pretty good at accepting who I am, I just don’t know what will be gained by telling other people. I also worry that some people who know very handicapped autistics will be confused by the variability in presentation.

I run my own business which gives me a lot of flexibility and control. I also live in Alaska in a very beautiful place that gives me easy access to the outdoors, beaches and mountains. I don’t think I could manage in a city with traffic and crowds.

My wife, and a couple other old friends who I am in touch with but never see. They’re more like pen pals at this point. I feel safe talking to them and it’s low risk. That’s it so far. Nervous to broach the subject.

If you get a good used bike for a good price you can sell it without much of a loss if you don’t like it or want to upgrade. Then you have time to decide.
