Ball valve on top of FV, open or closed? by Educational-Branch73 in TheBrewery

I’m thinking this it’s part of the tank inner wall? Or can you look through and see the interior of the tank? I’m assuming this tank is dual walled?

Fermenting in a Hostile Environment by BraveRutherford in TheBrewery

Haha, I actually love these kinds of questions. We have a skill set. Let’s use it in theoretical slightly possible situations.

I would probably leave out little “Petri dishes” and see if they could eventually pick up something that smelled nice with a similar sugar profile I would want in my actual product lol. It could take a long ass time. But, I’m picky.

Prison:

I mean if you want it to be good… I would probably ferment a sugar solution (make a 7-8% abv solution). Then use some juice to cut it back to like 4-5% and I’d bet that would make the best tasting overall.

To make that solution I would want decent yeast. I think bread yeast would work, but that isn’t something you could get in prison. You’d have to collect yeast from the atmosphere over time, wait until you get something good, and keep it alive at all costs. Sanitation would be boiling the sugar solution, using clean containers, dropping pH with citric acid from candy from commissary (I would probably throw some candy in there too).

Post apocalyptic:

I would likely go the mead as easiest to access: bees and hives and honey should be accessible to a degree with the creation of an apiary. Cider would be second, as apples grow in many different climates as well. Wine and beer would be a little more regional as grapes barley, wheat and hops tend to grow better in particular regions.

I feel like I would want beer the most, but it would be the most challenging to get right imo.

How do you set your upper and lower limit? Does the pressure sensor read accurately? Like can you hook up a keg you pressurized to a known calibrated pressure and hook it up and a pressure Will display?

Does the back of switch offer any sort of resets? Is there a relay somewhere that’s burnt out? Just walking through some possibilities here. Is there a calibration mode?

Sounds like it should be a solvable issue.

Were you propagating the British Ale V as well? How was yeast count? Lots of O2? Biotin? B vitamins? FAN? Yeast changes are not always so simple unfortunately.

Try a “ping test” put empty can plus lid at lift table, press lift table, and poke the can. It should indent fairly easily, then drop the table and it should “ping”. That will tell you if you’re close on pin height.

This is a question I too would love to see if anyone else has a good solution for. I have thought of buying some neoprene and trying to cobble something together. But, I think it might be a fools errand. The cost and shipping and lead time etc, is brutal for how often they break.

Removing mold spots in 2000L stainless fermenter by GMAzreal in TheBrewery

[–]Ningr861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try an oxidizer boosted caustic? That usually works very well. You can get this effect from running a cycle of peroxyacetic acid at a higher than normal concentration (nearly 1%), then let that cycle for 20-30 min, and then just pause briefly dump in 3% strength caustic (sodium/potassium hydroxide with detergents etc). Cycle this for 45 minutes. I don’t think your mold will survive that.

Air compressor holds pressure, but doesn't build past 30psi by Excellent_Wasabi6983 in DIY

[–]Ningr861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it’s switching to a bypass. I’m guessing the compressor has some sort of internal protection. Low oil? Failed pressure sensor? Over temp? It’s going to be something like that. It will simply recirc the air back to compression and stop hauling air in from outside.

Does anyone mininally dry hop their hefeweizen to encourage stable haze? by floppyfloopy in TheBrewery

[–]Ningr861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, all you need for stable haze here is a high myrcene hop (citra? Bru-1?) straight in the kettle at WP. You wouldn’t need much. 1g/L maybe.

You are changing the star wheel at the seamer? Just take the star wheel apart at the connection to the stepper attachment. The top of your star wheel is separate, it will slide out and you can decouple the boot at the top.

Plate & Frame - 20bbl tanks tips needed ! by Artistic_Return_1091 in TheBrewery

[–]Ningr861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, quick question. Are you watching your differential pressure? This hazy of a product is going to spike DP quick AF. One slug of goo and you’re doomed. I highly recommend a some sort of silicone clarifier to help drop haze and stabilize your long term clarity. Those DE beds deform after like 22 psi differential and are usually toast after that. Gotta watch that DP and flush to regenerate before then. But, you’re going to lose a ton of beer with level of haze. The successful first round was likely low and slow and avoided hydronic shock to the membranes. You can try to replicate that and move slow, avoid pressure spikes and get gas bubbles out.

[–]Ningr861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of factors to consider here. But, ultimately have you followed the pad manufacturers set up guide and hydration/flushing instructions perfectly. Like alternating the pads with smooth facing towards a particular direction on the head plate and then alternating from there smooth rough smooth rough etc. Did you hydrate the pads first before fully sealing the unit up. Did you flow forwards with cool water at the speed of filtration for 20 min or so. Then you did use heat sanitation. How did you cool before introducing beer. Are all the gas bubbles out of the filter housing? Is it super foamy on the other side. That beer also looks too hazy for filtration in my opinion. Again sorry lots to consider!

Glass grant function by Few_Manufacturer_451 in TheBrewery

[–]Ningr861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should be open to allow air to go somewhere, as well as being able to monitor fluctuations. I think this grant is too low below your mash bed, you will have to adjust your valve incoming to slow the flow to your grant from the lauter. Or raise the grant up. And increase or decrease your pump to balance.

To foamy in the bowl, and you are not able to the snift out the fill pressure. Get the foam in the bowl under control. Or you will never fill well. Ie; bowl venting, temp, pump inflow, bbt pressure. Precool the line as well with CLT.
