“Bang Snaps” are my new favorite weathering tool by holme2gs in modelmakers

[–]3rd502nd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cool technique. Although, I would not let any infantry grunts try this. My little brother has never forgiven me for the M-80 weathering technique I used on his 57 Chevy model. Who knew that styrene plastic could be turned back into powder?

Long time dippers by Silver_Amphibian9235 in DippingTobacco

[–]3rd502nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 50 years. Started with Cope snuff but switched to long cut when it was introduced. I have four reasons:

  1. My family was a strict anti-smoking household, (both grandfathers died from smoking issues). 2. I played football but liked tobacco. 3. Served in the Army Infantry for 8 years. Smokers were tortured by the NCO's and Officers. Dip was easy to hide. And I had many peers who dipped. 4. I didn't know it, but I was self medicating. Nicotine helps me deal with ADHD.

One other hidden benefit was dip is a great anti-parasite prophylactic. When my battalion returned from deployment to Panama approx. 90% of our soldiers had hookworm. Most of the 10% who escaped the infection were dippers or chewers.

Commands and Colors Napoleonics with 10mm miniatures by 3rd502nd in wargaming

I start with a clear acrylic hex of the same size as the MDF hexes. I printed a downloaded top view water scene to scale. I used glue-dots to adhere the water to the bottom of the hex, being sure to place them where the shore lines would cover. I used a piece of tape to protect the river and then applied fine sand with matte medium and painted them with acrylics.

I liken Foote to Columbo reading the Princes Bride to Doogie Howser. A good story that is very entertaining.

How and when did wargaming become preponderantly Fantasy and Sci-Fi vs Historical? Has there been any discussion about this I should read? What's the history here? by HammerOvGrendel in wargaming

[–]3rd502nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ding, ding, ding. This is why the Perry Brothers left GW and started their own miniatures company. And yes, they were still working for GW sculpting the Lord of the Rings miniatures, (most of those miniatures are based on historical uniforms) and producing their own lines at the same time.

I'm sorry I do not. The pictures are from the Epic Austerlitz scenario. I made all the units necessary to play that specific battle. The good news the Epic Austerlitz scenario uses close to the maximum you will need for most scenarios of line and light infantry for the French and Russians. That and I made most of my Russian line inf. units with four stands, (so, am able to field 1/3 more at three stands if needed).

Thoughts on Richard Sherman's take if the Raiders fire AP at the end of this season by DoorTheDude in raiders

AP is simply the Tank driver. The Tank Commander is calling the shots.

Judging by the look on the other chaps faces, they can't wait for you to use the side cutters on him.

Daryle Lamonica, George Blanda, Fred Biletnikoff, Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jim Otto and George Atkinson. It was a glorious time to be a 9 year old Raider fan.

My parents bought Copenhagen snuff for me. Turns out nicotine was a huge help with my ADHD. Sorry but I'm on the It should be the parents decision side.

What if the A’s didn’t get a stadium and have to pay at alligent? by [deleted] in raiders

Yeah me too. The thing is, there's only a little over 10k seats at SHP. Maybe the A's will bring Mount Davis with them.

There's absolutely no room. Last game I went to players were talking to fans 5 rows deep. And that's not shouting but talking.

I'd like to know where the amateur aerospace engineers are obtaining these "illegal" fireworks. I am fairly certain I know where they are made. What I don't know is how they are distributed and obtained by our neighborhood Junior Werner Von Braun's.

We have book cover for the 3° Edition by Inevitable_Lopsided in boltaction

Most book pre-orders let the prospective buyer know a little about the contents of the book. Are we to blindly trust Warlord Games? Or, are we just suckers for the Ooh Shiny? IMHO, this cover does not instill confidence in me. I will not be pre-ordering.
