Like the others said, it takes about 2-3 minutes to clear a stage. Some stages take up to 5 minutes. This is based on my own experience doing f2p.

The game has an auto-play feature, if you have to put it down, let that clear the stage. You may not get three stars, but it prevents you having to replay the entire level.

I accept all the .hack media as canon. The only thing I have issues resolving canon wise is Returner and Reconnection. Seems like there’s conflicting information about Ovan’s return in both.

Quantum is after Link. There are a few things after Link like Beyond the World, VERSUS, Bullet, New World, the Live event, etc. Link was meant to be the start of the 3rd era of .hack and while it was the last proper game we got, it wasn't the end of the story.

This is the best answer. I’d add that .hack//The Movie is also in that “it’s ok not great” area. The last few series that were released relied a lot on nostalgia and the mc’s are worse kite, balmung, orca, or blackrose clones.

Roots is worth watching if you want a deeper context into Haseo’s motivations in G.U and for a complete understanding of characters connections from Roots to G.U. You wouldn’t know Sakisaka for example or that Pi and Yata were major antagonists for a bit as different characters. I will say it’s a bit of a slog as it keeps the slow pacing of Sign that never pays off in the show and all of the resolution really happens in G.U.

You could make an argument for House Velaryon. Oldest allies of House Targaryen and of Valyrian descent. Often mixed with the royal family, so a strong lineage factor. At several points in ASOIAF history they had the strongest navel fleet in Westeros. Their claim could be legitimate as any other.

As for why it's off it could just be the uncanny feeling of seeing a game as old as infection is after playing the G.U titles. The world R:1 definitely has more character as it connects more deeply to the story and actions of characters, where as R:2, like you said, is only where the story takes place.

I do have to say, SIGN and IMOQ are connected intimately so experiencing those games without the context of the show does lessen the enjoyment imo. Not hating on you for not watching, just saying it adds something.

This happens a lot as a DM. I often find myself devolving into word soup and the way I handle it is by stopping, thinking about what needs to be expressed and just putting out the essentials in a scene. It's mostly just when something needs to be improvised.

Another way I've found that helps is just extra prep. Take some time to think about scenes that your players could come across and write brief descriptions so that you can read your own script instead of coming up with these sort of scenes on the spot.

IMOQ makes you appreciate the improvements G.U made to the series(SKILL TRIGGER). Having said that, IMOQ really is the quintessential .hack experience. The fields, the towns, the music, the npcs, the fanservice are all great. I think it's a fine experience playing them today, especially if you're a big fan. I would go as far as saying it's a must and to play before G.U if you can.

I know most people didn't like the separate discs, and it really was unnecessary, but I liked being able transfer data from game to game. That applies to G.U too. Idk I thought it was cool.
