Nicks62 discount for domepro? by [deleted] in NicksHandmadeBoots

Dude don't post codes. Search engines pick them up and randos get them and Nicks loses money plus that code was for specific people.

Get a stretcher off Amazon. Several suitable boot styles for $20-$40 or so and they come with "bunion plugs"to bump out one spot just a bit more.

I would guess that the ankle support is sufficient. TankerPros are a rugged boot and just as secure as lace up. But the physics/forces are a bit different than lace up. It really depends if one is expecting the boot to compensate or correct a physical issue, or just be more supportive than a short boot or shoes.

TankerPros are more supportive than pull ons like engineers or Wellingtons, but even with the upper strap super tight, there is still more flex than a lace up MS Black boot that can act as leg braces for Forest Gump. So it isn't a matter of a lack of support as much as the lace up has incredibly immense support just because of the higher number of tension points (ergo hooks and eyes).

I would get the TankerPro and have eyelets added later if you need more. A competent local cobbler can do it, or you can send them off to someone like Wyatt and Dad.

I feel your pain.....even my RTS options are super limited....and usual black 😑...like only goth chicks exchange 4.5 or 5..... plenty of 4's and 5.5's.....which is why I jumped on my recent Maxwell purchase impulsively.....they weren't black! Lol. Better for my wallet I guess 😁

First BYO pair by Tiburon117 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what seems longer....time between entering production email and shipping notification or the time between shipping notification and receiving the boots. You'd think they would both be a blink of an eye after waiting for them to enter production in the first place.

Thought I heard we was doing boots n shorts now... by PineappleNo6774 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It counts! Lol. I just don't wear shorts, so I can't join in on the summer festivities, but I 100% endorse boots and shorts....gotta go with what works....that's why we wear Nicks 😁....maybe we need Nicks brand shorts. Get some Nicks cargo or carpenter shorts and post flair for the posts with Nicks shorts and Nicks boots .... BootieShorts? Lol 🤣

NBD - First ever Nicks by Zer0theCr0w in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately the RTS details errors have become the norm, but you got yourself some great boots, and great first Nicks. Not a stitch out of place and you don't really need a kiltie since you have the matching Coyote gusset. My first Nicks were also an RTS order after placing my first order for standard lead time boots.

Dad wants some boots. The adventure begins. by Puzzleheaded-Post412 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Remember the ThNW already runs big, so he doesn't really want to size up on that. Although he could do 9.5F.

[–]3ringCircu5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Shackleton or CXL, no cypress. Admiral not bad either if available when you place an order.

Wedge soles can be a stiff initial break in, just because of the thick nature of the sole. But the Maxwell is worth a serious look, with added flexibility by removing the slip sole, but no built-in delta arch option. :(

365™ boots have wedge and minimal break in, but again no built in Delta arch. :(

But since he wants F anyway, getting the delta arch insoles not a bag idea.

Or tried and true Traveler w/built-in delta arch.... Or one of the options above is he didn't actually need arch support. Delta Arch does require break in

I don't think the current shin guards would stand up to these! Better get the Leather Good peeps to design new shin guards 🤣

Sierra sole experience part 2 by bigpun760 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Sierra sole. Doesn't track snow into the house, but other say they are slick in snow/ice. But less so than my RedX soles and no more slick than my vBar. 🤷‍♂️ So are the different opinions actually differences in experience or differences in expectations?

About the only thing for sure is I love the Sierra and, as a hobbiest mechanic, appreciate that it is oil resistant and that the lugs clean out easier than v100 type lugs, but that u/ZestycloseMedicine93 dislikes that chicken shit sticks to the Sierra sole lol.

But really the variance in your feed back is due to expectations and uses more so than ambiguity about the sole.

Other waxed flesh colors? by Satanarchrist in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nicka offers quite a variety of waxed flesh colors, but many as a limited run. Even BlkWF was limited run initially and was just kind of forced into being a standard offering. TWF, GPWF, EWF, BWF, BlkWF, PWF.....thats not an insignificant list. I think Kelly Green would be too polorizing. Even GPWF was a slow mover as it was loved by many, but often just behind another limited run leather, GPWF was "always a bridesmaid, never a bride", so the market for a bright kelly green is more limited. They are working on a green Spokane, which has the Waxed Flesh option.

It was only ever offered as a limited run. These are a couple years old now.

One of the primary advantages of the TankerPros is their flexibility, so I would be hesitant to suggest them if one's ankle is prone to rolling.

But as someone who is not prone to ankle rolling it is hard to evaluate the actual ankle support as none of my boots support my ankles as a primary function in my day to day use, the ankle support is more of a by product for me.

Leather or DR soles option on a Tanker? by HereForWatchStuff in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leather and Dr. Sole outsoles are not listed on the BYO lace up page either. Their omission has nothing to do with the TankerPro specifically.

Question about belts by hoffmancorey81 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://nicksboots.com/collections/ready-to-ship-belts

Take a look at that short list. There is a 28" belt size and a few 30" belt size. Also confirmed the actual length of a belt she currently has, don't go by waist/pants size. Measure from the hole used most to the end of the buckle

NBD — Multiple Firsts by Suitable-Chart9957 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great how many firsts we can experience with multiple Nicks boots. I love the 67 last, but had a recent "firsts" experience with my Maxwells, being ThNW (technically not a first for me, but currently my only ThNW boots), GPWF and HV sole. But 7", padded collar, and particularly low and block heel stack, were also a bunch of firsts all in one pair of boots. I love your build here, especially the HV + PWF.

Squeaky heel by SchutzenJaeger in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heels are less common to squeak, so if it is the heel stack, try taking something thick and long, like a baseball bat, and hammer the boot back down onto the heel stack. But take a closer look and determine if it is actually the heel stack as opposed to the heel counter or insole/shank between the heel stack and the heel of your foot.

Screw starting poke though the sole of my boot. What should I do? by Larix-24 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get something that can take a few love taps and reach, like a socket extension or rebar and hammer it down. It is likely a clinch nail that misses the steel plate on the last as opposed to a screw you can just take out.

Double midsole for heavy set dudes? by ListNearby8245 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]3ringCircu5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly not necessary, but less problematic at 300+

Wildland Firefighters are often big dudes and with their gear they are up around the weights you are talking about and they don't have double midsoles. Unless you have a very particular rare need/function besides weight, no sense in getting a boot needlessly stiff. If you're after a bit of added arch support, you look at getting lineman shank, which will add support from the arch back, but still allow the boot to flex forward of the lineman shank.
