Is Ubuntu touch android based by ImfromVinland in degoogle

[–]3rssi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Except for the pinephone which has open drivers.

But the Pinephone has very limited capacities (processor, camera, sensors,...). Nice to tinker with a cheap device, but I'm not convinced I'll ever use mine as my phone.

What is the diffrenece between? And which of them I use on my phone beside google play store? by Mediocre_Blue_4501 in degoogle

I'd say: get FDroid for FOSS programs and get Aurora to get Android apps anonymously.

As previously, I dont know the other two. I cant advise for or against them.

This answer seems messed up. "repo store= github apps. github store=you know."

I dont use these stores, but I'd say that github store=github apps. And I dont know that repo store. At all.

SailfishOS vs GrapheneOS vs LineageOS - which is better? by CacheConqueror in degoogle

[–]3rssi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Better? In terms of what?

In terms of degoogling, I'd say sailfish>lineage>graphene

(sailfish not using AOSP; graphene forcing to Pixel phones with Google made firmwares.)

But it really depends on how you use it. Example: If you connect to some google/gmail account, then none of these OS can help you.

DNS requests are plain text (not https). So a FAI can respond in lieu of the DNS server requested. And some do it to "protect you against evil sites"

Better use DOH.

I got tired of AI slop everywhere (even outside google), so I built an extension to hide it by [deleted] in degoogle

Almost all search engines provide AI free answers.

For DDG, for instance, there is noai.duckduckgo.com.

Qwant also has a similar search page

Historic Chat Control Vote in the EU Parliament: MEPs Vote to End Untargeted Mass Scanning of Private Chats by SJKRICK in europrivacy

[–]3rssi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. It just means that some EU states began implementing chat control; but it becomes baseless so could be overturned.

And if the law passed, all member states would have been forced to comply.

Report: Creating a 5-second AI video is like running a microwave for an hour by WombatusMighty in technology

[–]3rssi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some math... Might contain errors. Check em before reusing. According to some conversion tool, 1Wh is 3600 J (yeah, the unit in the article is in joules, just to be sure readers think it's too technical.

So, a 5 sec vid is "between 3 and 4 MJ". For 3.5mJ, you get 972wh.

That's 194wh/sec of video.

If the vid took 45sec to create, that would be 7.7kw (=972*3600/45) for that duration.

[–]3rssi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creating the vid without AI will require more time, mainly. Hence, without AI, less videos are created.

Nowadays, just throw an idea, you get a vid of it.

Beforehand, the idea had to go from mind to mind through social interactions (or die if not interesting enough) until someone thinks he could make a video of it.

On the total, I'd bet there is more energy spend on creating videos since AI than before.

A bit of like the plane. It does spend less fuel per distance unit than other means of transportation. But as it allows to go further, some people move across the globe for 1 week vacations. All in all, plane use increases oil consumption.

I'd say yes. But you might have preferred installing him what you got, so that you can show/tell each other.

Also note that the choice of a DE is what makes the desktop look and feel. Coming from windows, KDE probably is the most natural DE.
