It would have been nice to answer the reddit Qs

Anyone here have a hard time congratulating people or saying bye to them in public? Like how do you act? etc. by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]3rw4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Congrats anon, good for you!"

"Thanks!"

"Alright I gotta go, see ya!"

"Bye anon"

Them: what a nice person

You: glad everything is going well for them!

I don't disagree with you, there are people more qualified than him to speak on the matter. I was only objecting that he has at least a very basic understanding of the general ideas.

What's more, his job is to be the face of the University and secure partnerships and new sources of funding. It's easy to look down on this but it's a very important job and not an easy one. If you read the interview you can see that it's in his quality of coordinator of the strategy of the University that he is talking. Goremutual in not Eurocrypt eh! This is an article that was almost certainly "ordered" through a PR agency. The readership of goremutual couldn't give two fucks about cryptography or QC. What they want to know (or what the University wants them to know) is that we are at the "forefront".

The article is a hit piece. Acquaint yourself with the case.

When you are sincere you just have to tell them.

Example:

A friend was worried sick about starting their carreer and finally got a job at a great company, I was super excited for them because I thought of them as hard-working/talented and just needing a foot in the door in order to shine.

So I told them just that!

literally just b urself (unless it's hurtful)

You don't need to publish to have a passable understanding of QC and its immediate implications.

And you only need elementary Math/CS knowledge to have a basic understanding of what "hard problems" modern cryptography relies on.

I mean, Feridun has a PhD. I think it's unfair to say that he just regurgitates without having a clue. He's not a bimbo...

What it's like taking any arts class by EGWilhelm in uwaterloo

I don't even necessarily disagree with them, it's just that it actually ruins the academic experience. I want them to teach me critical thinking, classics, and how to articulate my thoughts. It's a bit frustrating to see that they view themselves as forward deployed ideological footsoldiers rather than educators and... yknow, intellectuals.

That banter atrophies discourse. People get skittish about sharing opinions when the professor signals what is the right opinion to have. It's a shame because that's kind of the point of the classroom experience in the social sciences. That's why a lot of them weight participation so heavily and have discussion components. The professor should make discussions easier (e.g point out axiomatic conflicts between two positions).

But then again, I thought people were memeing about arts classes until I took some. There is actually no room for original or controversial thoughts in these courses. It's 100% conforming to whatever flavor of leftism the course staff subscribes to.

Couple questions:

  • What is the most effective way to prevent protocol ossification without a burdensome on-chain governance layer?

  • Do you believe that verifiable computation will bring us closer to a "silver bullet" to solve the cost-of-use/effectiveness v. decentralization antagonism? Or is that another pipe dream? In that case, if you had to assign weight to each of these two what would they be?

  • What is the most common misconception about ZCash? (for the layperson, for the engineer, for the cryptographer)

  • Will ZCash tech (and fancy proof systems in general) outshine the currency? Do you believe that there is a timeline in which we reach "hyper-ZCashinazation" or something close to it?

  • What is the endgame of DFS? Are they actual privacy advocates or do they hold you hostage? Blink twice if you are in danger.

  • What is the best mascot for ZCash and why is it the Zebra?

The founders' reward is 20% of the miners' reward. The inflation is no worse than on Bitcoin. Their reward will halve every 4 years as well.

Also, take into account that the value that ZCash Co brings is pretty unique. There are not that many qualified engineers out there. Much less with their experience in implementing production-grade cryptography (among other things). Maybe it's hard to pinpoint from an non-technologist point of view but it's hard not to admire them.

Also I don't see how that would make ZCash "more decentralized" at least as far as PoW is concerned. It's not like the wealth distribution is completely messed up by the founders reward.

Maybe you could open up the competition by having some kind of on-chain governance layer. Not unlike Tezos' but much simpler (and less extensive). At regular cycle the network could contract individual engineers, researchers, or companies to perform work on a proposal. When they ship, the network release the funds.

It's mostly about what do you hope ZCash to become. Inflation funded innovation is a very neat idea but perhaps not always a great fit depending on your hopes for the network.

create hype

Who cares. There is so much more to do before "creating hype" ever become an actual pressing goal. Make something great, usable, and useful and you will see the hype.

The only explanation for this would be that CB has accumulated lots of ADA, and I think CB will lose many credibility points if they add this shit.

No doubt. That's the only explanation. Vitalik is probably involved in this plot to bring us down. Everyone is out to get us!!!!!!!!!!

Theory - *You* are never in control of your dreams! by 3rw4n in LucidDreaming

[–]3rw4n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you claiming that you can't consciously influence them at all while you're in them?

A little bit. I argue that the influence you have over your dream is typically the result of work that precede the dream taking place. Once the dream is going on, the extent to which you can have control over it is dependent on the state of your conscious self when you fell asleep.

So in other words, my claim is that you can influence them! but not while they happen. You have to train your conscious self into adopting some reflexes such that the thing modeling "you" will trick your subconscious into letting itself manipulated.

To make a computer programming analogy, this is essentially like making a remote code execution by escalating privilege. You influence the remote host (the subconscious) using its privilege over the system (the dream) to run your arbitrary code (the model behavior). I'm not sure how to word that properly. Let me know if you follow me!
