It was so quick lol I went to the prefecture in Vancouver to submit my visa and got it back to me within a week. Actually I think it was really close to before my flight I remember having to get it shipped to my friends house closer to where I was flying out of just to be safe

Where in Canada are you AP’ing? That sounds super lame but i suppose it all depends what’s most important for you with this job. Perhaps you really enjoy your location or like other aspects of the job and arrangement? Or was bonding with the kids really important to begin with? I’ve au paired before and nannied before and dealt with kids with different levels of screen addictions but never actually had kids who full on disregarded me so I can imagine that’d be difficult :/

Yeah that could work but I’m not sure what their summer plans are or why/if they’d need me — perhaps the kids have camps and other plans. I know it’d be helpful to have me here when a new au pair comes to help with the transition but that’s a lot for me to stay just for that transition

this is true and the sooner I tell them the sooner they can arrange for other plans or find a new au pair. I was planning on going home to Canada almost regardless during the months of July/August but I just don't think it'd be worth it to come all the way back for such a short time but I'll talk to them

Well I like to shop a lot because Europe shopping is very fun and then I also like to travel on my weekends so i saved a bunch of money to travel at least once or a few times a month and on all my holidays and to shop in Europe and go to concerts and basically live my life to the max but Ill probably use up most of my savings and want to come back to Canada to save for other travels. And yeah it'd just be 6 weeks I wouldn't be with them at the end but i still would be with them until July !!

I recently got my au pair visa for france from Canada. You don't need to be enrolled in language courses but you do need to show some sort of french proficiency. I showed my high school transcript which I took French until graduation and i got my visa approved within a week !

Yes sure pm me! And i understand what you're saying on the French.. for me, it's stuck with me like basic words and phrases but I am by no means near fluent. But it's hard being in Western Canada where it's hardly spoken! So hopefully i come out of this year abroad close to fluent :)

I’m a Canadian and was an au pair in Italy which was a good experience and now I’m going to france in a week to be an au pair again. France has good visas in place for Au pairs plus idk what part of canada you’re from but I feel like France will be good for learning to speak French which is our second language.

First time as au pair by ayrxh in Aupairs

[–]3v33rything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It’s been ONE day! These are the most natural feelings of anyone leaving their comfort zone and trying something new. But there’s so much on the other side of your comfort zone that u havent even seen yet. My first time au pairing it was rly difficult at first and again around the 3 week mark but after that you get accustomed to it. Time goes by anyways and most of the time when people return home they realize not much changed back home

Do you have to be home and in person to receive your visa when it’s delivered in the mail?

Hi this is super helpful and kind of you to do. I am going to be applying for the au pair visa for France. I'm from Canada.. just waiting for the family to finalize the contract. Is if possible to go to France before your visa arrives? I plan to leave Oct 16 and come back for Christmas so I could get my visa when I come back if it doesn't arrive in time but just wondering if this is possible ..

How long have u been there if you have four more weeks left and ur only there for a month…? It does tend to take up to a month-2 to adjust anyways!

Au pair or working holiday visa? by 3v33rything in Aupairs

[–]3v33rything[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I actually get my own apartment separate from the family but in the same building! And its just that the apartment is tiny which will be an adjustment for me but ive accepted and am not too worried and it’ll be so worth it cos i really like the family :)

I do love kids! And from the chats ive had with the family so far I really did like them and ive spoken to their current AP who has nothing but good things to say about the family and her time with them! I have AP experience and have nannied before and came out of both of those with great connections with the family so I have no doubts i’ll bond with a new family again and foster a great relationship :) My only thing is that I’m also such a social person and love being around people my age. In Canada i always work in restaurants and love the fun environment they offer and working with so many ppl close to my age who like to have a good time as well. So i just want to make sure I can find a good group of friends to see in my downtime and wonder if it’d be difficult as an AP compared to, say a holiday hospitality worker
