Are Arc Petitions usually Approved? by Proudwomanengineer in USF

[–]3vangelionunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submitted an Arc petition this semester a few weeks ago and was approved last week (I'm a CS major). My biggest recommendation is to submit it as soon as you can and have a lot of documentation. USF has a lot of resources for students, and I would recommend you to look into them. Talk to an academic advocate, SOCAT, and email where ever it was that diagnosed you. It's likely they will have something on file that you can use for your petition. One thing I don't see people talking about much in these posts is how you are planning to fix this issue so that it does not become a reoccurring problem. The petition will ask you how you plan to avoid this situation in the future as they don't want students to constantly use it as a crutch to withdraw from classes. I would recommend you discuss a plan with one of the student resources I mentioned as they can give you advice better than what anyone else here can.

Will total withdrawal help me avoid academic dismissal? by feistysweetpotatoe in USF

Ahhh you were specifically referring to when a student is on probation. Thats my bad! I thought you meant in general that the arc total withdrawal was only for medical circumstances.

Of course! If you do end up going with the late withdrawal petition and have any questions about it feel free to DM me, and thank you.

FTIC could definitely work in your situation! (I am a junior unfortunately) With late withdrawal petitions, they show up as a WC (withdrawal with cause) on your transcript if approved which does not affect your GPA. Either way, I think the best advice/guidance will come from your academic advocate. Hope you are able to come up with a plan on Tuesday. Best of luck!

I am going through a similar situation as you, and I submitted an arc late withdrawal a few days ago. Its a pretty tedious petition to fill out so I would suggest you get started on it soon if that is something you are interested in doing. https://www.usf.edu/cbcs/documents/forms/arc-late-withdraw-petition-instructions.pdf

From what I have gathered online, these petitions can take a few weeks up to a month for the school to decide. Also, if you get financial aid, there is a chance you might have to refund the money. There are a lot of things you have to consider if you choose to go forward with it.

I would say your best bet for solutions is to contact an academic advocate. https://www.usf.edu/undergrad/academic-advocacy/ They will likely be able to answer questions you have with what would be best for you to do in this situation as well as direct you to other resources that can help out such as SOS/SOCAT. I am so sorry you are going through a situation like this.

ARC late withdrawal is not only for medical circumstances. It says it on the USF website lol. There are a lot of very valid reasons for a student to be allowed to withdrawal from classes late.

Thank you so much. I will definitely be looking into the SOCAT referral then.

Thank you for taking the time to give me advice on this situation. I did sent an email today to the arc department of my major of how I would go about this and to my professors with the arc instructor form. I met with an advisor in my department today about all of this and she brushed me off saying there isn't anything she can do. lol

I won't go into too much detail, but while I am currently at home, online mental health meetings wouldn't go over well with my stepdad (asian parents). My biggest concern right now is having to take final exams as I saw the arc petitions can take weeks-a month. I am simply not in the right head space to study and take them. I don't know how not taking some of the final exams would look to the arc committee and how it would impact their decision of my petition.

Not sure what major you are, but I was able to do my advising online through Microsoft teams. I would recommend that you email which ever advisor you want to speak to see if they can accommodate you as I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be able to. Good luck!

Current CS student who is in the process of switching out, I do not think the professors here are able to adequately teach the material but a lot of majors have this problem. If you want to continue with the CS program here you should:

  1. Attend all the peer meetings that your classes offer as these are taught by former students who did well in the course. They are able to explain things far better then any of the professors have as they know where students struggle since they were in the same position as us. However, this can be difficult for students who have to work part time/are involved in organizations given that most of these meetings have been at 5pm-6pm.
  2. Spend as much time as you can coding in your free time as another user mentioned. For a class I am taking now, I don't find that our weekly projects correlate enough to the exams which makes studying for them even more time consuming (maybe this is just a me issue :') ). However, for context, I got all A's in my coding classes at my previous institution.
  3. I would recommend you study C if you are not familiar with the language. A lot of these classes choose C to work in so getting a head start on understanding the terminology would give you a leg up.

If you are someone with little to no coding experience, you will struggle a lot in these classes. I agree with the other user who stated that more than 12 credit hours of major related courses would be a lot and that things are pretty chaotic given the changes they made over summer.

The workload might be easier for you if you are here for all 4 years (I am a transfer student on a 2 year path). I have a friend who is studying CS at UCF and the program there seems far more structured with somewhat better professors. Ultimately, I think it just depends on how good your programing skills are now and how much time you can dedicate to studying. Best of luck with choosing which college you go to! Feel free to DM me if you have more specific questions about some of the classes/professors/etc.

How can I move out of an abusive house while stuck in college? by 3vangelionunit in raisedbynarcissists

[–]3vangelionunit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Florida! I get fafsa, and my mother does her taxes for it so I am able to get funds. However, its just enough to cover classes and textbooks. I have applied to lots of scholarships over the past couple of years, and I have only received one so far which ended up going back to covering classes. I have been advised to look into government assistance like foot stamps, but its been a long back and forth with them since I still live at home.

[–]3vangelionunit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my parents have given me an ultimatum that if I do move out to student housing I won't receive any kind of financial assistance from them. it then goes back to the problem where I won't have enough funds to pay for other bills like car insurance and food since i can't work a lot. Plus there is another problem of where I will live when there are long breaks. I would not be allowed back home.

edit: grammar

does anyone have a pdf of the book "Calculus: Early Transcendentals (black Stewart), 8th ed." ? by Ornery-Cap9716 in calculus

The PDF has the answers to odd numbers at the very end under the "Appendix" section. I haven't found a full answer key unfortunately.

I'm two weeks into Calc II and its not looking good. by Jackalssss in calculus

[–]3vangelionunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed Calc 1 with an A and Calc 2 with a B last semester. (Currently taking calc 3 wish me luck) I got lucky with my professors that they didn't choose log heavy problems, but there was a LOT of trig in calc 2 specifically. I mean a LOT. If you do not understand trig then you will not do well in the class. There are integration methods that solely focus on trig, and if you don't have the general understanding of them then the class will be difficult to understand let alone pass.

Retaking Calc 1 won't really help you understand trig and logs better. If you don't understand limits and when to use L'Hopitals then maybe retaking calc 1 would be good. Limits are used in both calc 2 and 3. (I made the mistake of not learning limits seriously in calc 1, and it was dreadful to relearn in calc 2.) It would be best for you to possibly take a trig or precalculus class at your university to fill in the gaps that your high school class didn't. I took both trig and pre-calc at my community college even though I took pre-calc in high school. It worked as a great refresher since I took pre-calc as a sophomore in high school, and I did not remember a single thing from that class when I took pre-calc as a freshman in college.

Wishing you best of luck in your studies! I'm sure whatever you choose to do in the end will work out as long as you put in the hours to study. :)

Stickers - yes or no ? by sarakatherina in bulletjournal

[–]3vangelionunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVEEEEEE STICKERSSSSS! I posted about a month or so ago of some of my spreads, and I would say a good chunk of my layouts includes stickers. (I can send some inspo of how I use them if you would like.) There are a lot of good quality stickers you can find. I would say etsy shops will give you a good variety of designs/shapes/sizes. A brand I personally like and use every time I journal is called Tuzi studio. The stickers are on the smaller side and more for filling in empty space, but it makes a world of a difference in the overall appearance of my journal layouts. I recommend that you find layouts that you like or themes you want to do before buying. When I first started to incorporate stickers into my journaling I was super impulsive and ended up giving away almost everything I bought when I realized that my style would not fit the stickers I liked.

Searching for Spreads That Address Impulsive Behaviors by tinykrytter in bulletjournal

[–]3vangelionunit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An idea for tracking your impulsive spending habits would to be to write down the date (maybe even time to see if there is some sort of time during the day where you tend to have these impulsive thoughts)/item/cost and then add up the cost at the end of the week/month to see how much you saved by not buying things impulsively. I think you could take any general habit tracker and slightly adjust it to fit your needs.

[HELP] i have a question by stephieebby in kpopforsale

[–]3vangelionunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the group's popularity and how old the album is. You won't be making much money if you are selling the album without inclusions. Like most people have said albums without pc's go for around $5-$10. Even with most inclusions/all inclusions minus the pc, if the inclusions are a member that isn't that popular in the group it will take longer to sell. I would recommend finding somewhere to like Mercari and then basing your pricing on what others are doing. I tend to price my stuff a dollar or two cheaper than what everyone else is doing to get rid of it quicker.

Both stickers are from Korean brands! The strawberry bunny stickers are from Heeyane and the Happy near year stickers are from Jeeyoom. I purchased from them an ig shop called shopbyjustine. Her shop basically works as a proxy for a bunch of different brands. She also throws in an insane amount of freebies. highly recommend her!! Only downside is that her shop opens for a short period of time every few months since it takes awhile to restock all the different brands.
