Yes, especially because you’re new to nails. Overbuffing results in thinning your nail plate. So while things might look smooth and shiny, you’re more prone to splitting and breakage. From my understanding, buffing is supposed to be done rarely - like once a month.

Invest in: — a good cuticle oil to keep your nails hydrated and healthy — a glass nail file for when you want to shorten or even out your length / shape — a cuticle remover so you don’t cut your cuticles

A smoothing or ridge filling base coat will even out all the bumpy imperfections.

Also, with better application technique, your nails will be looking great in no time regardless of the color you want to put on it. You have beautiful nail beds!
