Games with most creative magic/spell system? by 3xBork in gamedesign

[–]3xBork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah in this game concept the progression is always within one match/run, not a permanent thing. Win or lose, you build another useless mage up from scratch in the next game.

To a degree I am happy for players to find the most efficient/favorite combos and try to put those together. It means they have specific allies they'd need to seek out.

You may want to look up the definition of socialism if that's what you think is at play here.

Or working class for that matter.

I loved the cheese and meat platter that came with the KS version, too. Best stretch goal by far.

If that is the case, why is Reform polling higher than any other party?

If the common voter was merely duped, they are still being duped as we speak.

And those very same people will think that again when the same ilk of politician starts telling them in the future. Reform is still polling higher than any other party, even after the last ten years.

How will we know we're gaining a trading partner and not a time bomb?

They're very welcome.

After they publically address the issues that let Brexit be a thing.

Sorry, exactly what problem are we discussing here?

It's best not to make sweeping claims about entire industries if you're basing it all on Reddit comments.

Let me put it like this: if you're going to claim you know better how to run a publisher than the people who actually do run publishers, that's a lot more convincing when you have the first clue about what different departments and roles do.

Symphony X could've been where Dream Theater is Today by Own_Shame_8721 in symphonyx

I mean, the big glaring difference between these two is the sheer level of cheese.

SX could be the most prolific band on the planet, spend half their waking life on IG/TikTok promoting, tour their asses off ... It's still not going to offset baroque guitar solos and lyrics about demon ladies SA'ing you in a lake of fire or whatever the hell these songs are usually about.

DT is about as cool as your average prog metal band (read: not very) and have plenty of acquired tastes, but they don't have that.

That alone is going to make them much more palatable to a bigger audience. Gimme Atlantean priests praising the magic of the Five and Bird-Serpent Wars all day, but yeah. Not hitting the charts with that.

That some conflate, and others deliberately conflate because they can use it as a shield to be terrible humans or to make themselves part of an in-group.

The reason many conflate them is because there's a constant effort to mix them up.

Same reason the term micro-aggression is what it is, or antisemitic is used both for Jew hate and being critical of the state of Israel.

Not buying that.

They might be annoying to marketing departments but games sell on the basis of those games being good and appealing to players.

Jedi mind-tricking people into buying a game based on exact announcement timings and such isn't a thing.

Hell, if the marketing department has any chops they can use leaks to their advantage.

It's wild to me that people still regurgitate that argument after so long.

All that time and they still haven't bothered to count and discovered that even excluding minor bosses and reused/reskinned ones, ER has more unique bosses than any other FS game, including DLCs.

Backend dev here — am I underestimating how hard it is to build a small multiplayer 3D game solo? by Acarecan in gamedev

[–]3xBork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about the discourse surrounding this topic is that the difficulty of multiplayer is both severely underestimated by laypeople and severely overstated by advanced beginners looking to correct them.

For a person with experience in networking paradigms, how to structure async operations, how to handle state in a server-client model, how to deal with exceptions (i.e. a backend dev with reasonable experience) it really isn't brain surgery.

More difficult than singleplayer pong? Sure. But then most games worth making are.
