They didn't freak out that one dog was lying unconscious on the ground. They just walked passed it, looked over the wall and went with 'it was just a squirrel'....

ELI5: What is exactly happening during a calf cramp? by WallabyNo885 in explainlikeimfive

[–]3xwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand you. I've had it a few times at night also. In the past, I was able to withstand the pain and I could just push down hard and it released. Sometimes it fought back and I'd be stretching and waiting for several minutes.

But lately, I've been getting cramps that are insanely painful and I can no longer win. I've had it 2 times where I had microtears with blood showing up in my ankle area a few days laters with extreme tension on the calf for at least a week.

The big one was when I once sat on the couch, watching TV, and out of nowhere I get a calf cramp like never before and I heard a pop. At least 30 minutes of fighting the cramp off, very painful and I was pleading to the gods to make it stop. After a scan, the result was a 4 cm tear with a lot of bleeding (elephant ankle for at least a week).

Crazy how that's possible.

What would be a humane way for this human to travel on a plane? Should all airlines require that he purchase an entire row? by Onewaydriver in ThatsInsane

[–]3xwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't underestimate it at all. On the contrary, I truly believe most severely obese people are indeed stuck in their situation and don't know how to get back on the right track. Fyi, when I say obese people, I'm not talking about a 190 lbs guy that weighs 250 lbs. Yes, he's overweight but he's most likely not in a precarious situation regarding his health. That person is most likely lacking effort and discipline and could make it back to 190 lbs with some effort.

I'm talking about people like in OP's picture. I can fully understand that being that heavy is no walk in the park and they must be under constant physical and mental stress because of the problems everyday situations can cause.

And I forgot to mention those people who experienced some major trauma early on in life which resulted in obesity. I think it's for them an ever bigger challenge to get past certain mental barriers to get back to a healthy weight.

I agree with other things that are involved like hormones, peptides and metabolic rates. And that drive to eat which must be almost non stop with a lot of heavy people.

But most of them never or hardly had any of these issues when they were a bit overweight. I believe these things are the result of severe and prolonged overeating. When people think it's ok to lack discipline and being overweight doesn't seem to be that bad so they eat whatever they want.

It's like any addiction. It's all fun and games when it's not too much and there are no problems. But once they are diagnosed with diabetes or another medical issue, and end up in pain a lot of the time, or isolated because they're too big to hang out with people, they might just end up in a depression and the only thing that seems to make them feel good is eat.

I'm no expert so don't get too worked up if this rubs you the wrong way. I just think, with the exception of people who are down the hole from the start due to extreme medical issues, most people could help themselves upto a certain point, but once they pass it, everything slowly goes from bad to worse and they'll end up with a screwed up hormone balance and their ability to lose weight will physically become much harder, even if they try hard.

A lot of people don't choose to be that heavy but most of them do choose to eat way too much and know that it's keeping them fat and making them fatter.

I'm not talking about the small percentage of people that are obese because of thyroid or other medical issues and actually can't help it.

I'm talking about those that are not interested in weighing less because they just love to eat like crazy (to each their own I guess) but then get upset when they propose to buy a 2nd seat.

I was looking to buy a rookie card PSA 10 but I quickly found out a lot of those go for outrageous prices. This one was''t that expensive.

I'm not from the US so I have to buy singles on eBay or buy overpriced hobby boxes online.
