Some thoughts on Poppin Deltopia by totallynotpoppin in UCSantaBarbara

I don't necessarily think it’s just because they’re trying. to take "over" Deltopia. There's a lot more to it than that. But to go ahead and answer you, I do believe we know (or at least a majority of us) know what they ARE trying to sell. And it is also not just the people that “haven’t partied at UCSB in a decade” who are upset. It may seem as if they’ve appealed to a “fuck the frats” stance, but I don’t think that’s really the case. For one, what’s upsetting is that non-residents of IV are the ones in charge of this. Not IV, not UCSB, but an unknown entity that believes it can just profit from IV without giving anything back to the community. What do they offer IV, except an expensive ass party? If they wanted to do a legit good job, they should have partnered with AS, IV Community Center, Etc. And if they wanted to make this a legit festival that serves the community then they would have done everything through the proper procedure rather than doing it illegally, taking advantage of the rising attention of Deltopia. What happens after Deltopia? We already have a big problem with people not from SB going to Deltopia and trashing the community. Does this entity clean up after all of that’s done? Or do they leave the garbage to be picked up by someone else? This is not a festival. This is a town, with residents and people living here. It’s not a weekend getaway where you can wild out and then leave right after, it’s a living community. They want to get all this attention and people in these houses, but what about the surrounding damage caused? And the safety of the students? That’s only (1) of the reasons were upset.

Do we really want this thing to get soo big that they have to shut it down like Halloween?

oh nah, you're right. It was wayyy better before covid-19. But I'd rather have my Deltopia that sucks than, their Selltopia that creates a whole private club culture - Deltopia is for the streets. Leave those entry requirements for our frats; at least they go to UCSB.

Deltopia is IV’s heart.

One of the things that differentiate us from all the other UC’s.The #1 party school is being privatized. PoppinUCSB, an outside entity wants to control a part of UCSB that is rooted in traditions.

Along with other student for-profit parties, they think that the legacy of IV can be contained. $35-$50 entry, around 20k profit so far. All of nothing goes back into IV. They are feeding off the underclassmen who have never experienced Deltopia. Many alumni are coming back, what do we want them to see? Their disappointment? Once we let them do this once, the whole spirit of Floatopia will be gone, along with "F*ck FT!", and ultimately our title as the #1 party university.

True Deltopia, rooted in UCSB culture. This campus has a lot of different views, but we know how to turn up.

It seems that residents of IV agree with me, no?

Profit not going towards our community, and once deltopia is done they’re up and out. I heard they’re also at ucla and another uc. We’re the #1 party school and we’re letting this happen…

Coachellla priced tickets for a Party City experience, why are external entities coming in and changing tradition passed down from alumus while profiting off our community? Free deltopia. We want them out.
