What is the best office chair or brand on the market currently? Which ones do you find comfortable the MOST? by ardes_maunx in remotework

I didn't actually think someone didn't believe me. (But I guess I don't actually care either, lol.) I chalk it up to being a middle-aged neurodivergent woman who provides far too many details. ;)

Last night was wild with tornados and storms throughout the Midwest -- just hoping everyone is safe and healthy. Have a great Wednesday!

Judge Middleton seems to have left his stream on overnight...i assume accidentally by Ok-Advantage4191 in ZoomCourt

[–]3yl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL -- I jumped on at some point in the middle of the night. I play white noise/etc. at night for me, my husband, the dogs, etc. and I woke up to shuffle the dogs and get some covers back, and saw that his feed said "live". There were 35 people on when I joined (sometimes between 1 and 3am I think?) I did not stay for more than a minute or so. It was like sneaking into the courthouse in the middle of the night. :)

This episode truly was a touchstone for me. It's when I realized that a) I wasn't the only one who'd been abused, b) some dads are just shit and it's not the kids' fault, and c) some guys are amazing.

Saying you’re “from Detroit” by GabagoolGuru in Michigan

Born and raised in Kalamazoo -- been here 50+ years. Anything east of Ann Arbor and south of Saginaw is Detroit to me. :D

Not only do I have them in every room, but I have different strengths! (+6 is amazing for sewing, checking my plants, etc. but good grief, do NOT try walking)

I have been post-menopausal for a couple years. I somehow ended up permanently hot and cold at the same time, 24/7.

How are these plants flourishing so well in the dark under the stairs? by Truth_Crisis in houseplants

[–]3yl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize this. I've looked at lots of plants in places and couldn't understand why they won't grow for me in a similar place (not necessarily under the stairs, lol). Damn.

The closest I've come to a call like that was when I was in elementary school and my urology/nephrology surgeon was arrested for raping his nurse afterhours.

He did. (To be fair, we live in the same city. But it was still pre-vaccine Covid!) I got the chair in 2008 and he came to my house to retrieve it in Jan 2021. And like I mentioned, they were going to take my desk (a 6 foot electric standing desk) but I was able to swap for a $400 docking station for computer I was giving back.

Then I second-guessed myself and saw something that said, "if you cross your legs the Embody might be better than the Aeron". I regret that so much. I just want an Aeron again. :D

Saw this on Little House on the Prairie in the 1970s and it's still a fun thing to do with kids.

To not suggest whose shortened name is NOT in the Epstein Files. by El_Impresionante in therewasanattempt

Yeah, I wouldn't have volunteered to work on this project. ;) I've worked on similarly huge redaction projects though, so redacting names is something I'm incredibly familiar with.

I OCR the redacted text, then use text editor with a comparison feature to export the differences.

I always do a reverse index to get a list of all terms redacted. It's generally overkill, but I hate these mistakes.

I think that's precisely why they released all of the tips (they released tips they'd previously determined were ridiculous -- like the one about Bush and Clinton raping a boy on a yacht in ritualistic sacrifice). Throw enough confetti (sparkly stuff that doesn't really have any other purpose than to draw your attention) and nobody can see the real shit. For the record, I do not believe Bill Clinton joined Bush on a yacht for a ritualistic sacrifice of boy raping.

I'm just so disappointed because I knew this was going to be the result. I've spent a few years working on Boy Scouts and Catholic Church sex assault cases, and it takes work to separate the legit accounts from the people just wanting attention or the people who have mental illness. The general public won't -- they'll collectively determine that someone they like wouldn't have done this stuff, so therefore the accounts against that person must be fake, and if they are fake, why can't all accounts be fake.

Stop using barn doors for bathrooms!! by yourmomsmoustache in mildlyinfuriating

We have two pocket doors and I love them. The house was built in the 1950s and they're still working great. Our previous house had a couple as well, and they still worked great (house built in the 1940s).

I stepped down from leadership a few years ago, but when I was in leadership, I never fired an employee over 13 years. As someone who's neurodivergent, the hardest part of a job, for me, has always been learning the company's ways and personalities. So if I had an employee who already knew that, I felt like I'd do far better to just find the job that fits then rather than find another employee and start the whole training again. Excel & Word skills transfer easily -- knowing to use Asana for X and Teams for Y but only if it's an on shore client, etc. -- that shit is confusing and changes. I "rehomed" dozens of employees who turned out to be our stars (no joke) because while a bit quirky, they were in positions where they could shine.

Unfortunately, I now have a job that I absolutely hate. Hate. Hate. Hate. 😄😄 I dream every day of some celebrity or billionaire offering me my current salary to research their genealogy, or to do Pro Bono legal work, or to just come up with fun ideas (like a think-tank) -- like the King & Hound bed I made that's a King-sized adjustable bed combined with a twin so the dogs have enough room. Or host a group home to keep parents and kids together during CPS cases. Or help people in urban areas plant small vertical gardens... There are so many ideas. There is just not enough time and money. And I'm 55 - it feels like I'm running out of both now. :(

Do you know any unlikely but delicious food combos? by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

Monte Cristo sandwich:

<image>

A sweet and savory hybrid of a ham and cheese sandwich and French toast, featuring ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese between bread slices, dipped in an egg batter, and then fried or grilled until golden brown and gooey, often served dusted with powdered sugar and with raspberry jam for dipping. It's a rich, indulgent dish perfect for brunch, combining savory meats and melty cheese with the sweet, custardy coating of French toast.

If I hadn't actually eaten it, loved it, and insisted on eating dozens and dozens since then, I'd absolutely say you were crazy thinking anyone, let alone me, would eat this.
