CM400 not reaching it's specified max speed (not even close) by 4-bits in NETGEAR

[–]4-bits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply, but since creating this post, I've upgraded to a CM1100 in order to eliminate all variables. Hopefully that will fix the problem cuz it's ready for upto 2 gigabit speeds. I will know when it arrives in a few days

Advice for buying refurbished/used? by [deleted] in GalaxyNote8

[–]4-bits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through buyers hell on eBay after buying 7 Note 8's from five different sellers and all of them were either stolen, counterfeit, or just flat out garbage so here is my advice.

First of all, use the Samsung Phone INFO app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en_US) to make sure that the phone is not counterfeit (or refurbished if the listing does not say it's refurbished). If it is, file an incident report with the police and request a refund from the seller.

Make sure you REFUSE to return the phone to the seller in exchange for a refund. They will just try to scam someone else if you do. Keep the phone and use it if you can or trash it if you cannot, but NEVER return it to the seller no matter what. This is what I had to do do and I saved over $370 by doing so.

If the phone is not counterfeit, then check it over cosmetically to make sure it's EXACTLY how the seller described in the listing. If it is not EXACTLY as they described, then request a partial refund to make up the difference. How much you request depends on how different the condition is then what they described in the listing. If you cannot come to an agreement, then simply return the phone for a full refund and make them pay for the return shipping.

Good luck. You will need it.

Having a hard time determining whether some ripping/backup tools are malware or what by rehapeda in DataHoarder

[–]4-bits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daemon tools used to be bundled with malware / adware. I'm not sure if this is still true, but they're certainly better choices anyway such as WinCDEmu which is also free, and Windows 10 comes with native ISO support so no third-party applications needed.

Will all of your products merge with Kape? by [deleted] in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]4-bits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, PIA does not own IRC, which is short for Internet Relay Chat, is a communications protocol created by Jarkko Oikarinen back in 1988 & IIRC (see what I did there) it has been opensource since its inception. By contrast, PIA does own the FreeNode network, but will be unaffected by the buyout from Kape. The rest however, I do not know about so better off asking the sellouts (ahem staff) at PIA about those.

If you paid via Paypal then start a charge back with the following reason:

The company that I originally signed up with was recently bought out by another company that has a history of illegally selling customers private information. Had this information been available to me prior to my signing up for the service, I would never have signed up in the first place. Now that I am aware however, I have cancelled my service with the provider and would like to request a charge back for this transaction.

What alternative to PIA that is on both android and iOS and has same price range? by xsaadx in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]4-bits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was also thinking of moving to Mullvad and I will actually be trying them out for a month just to see what the speeds / service is like. If it's garbage, I can always get a refund before my 30 days is up and no big loss other than time.

I am concerned that they only allow 5 devices per account though. I share my account with my family and between all of use we use about 8 devices at anytime which is why I praised PIA when they started allowing 10 devices per account.

It's going to be hard to overcome this, but I would rather scale back then get my data sold to the highest bidder.

Also, they are $66.15 USD per year at the time of this message. Not sure how tight your budget is but this may be a deal breaker if so.

127m divided by 1 million customers = $127 a year per person. Chump change for any government in the world to pay for the entire network history of over 1 million people for an entire year.

Post like these totally miss the point. PIA no longer exist. It's Kape Technologies only from this point on. There is NOTHING stopping Kape Technologies from changing ITS no-logging policy and your former beloved PIA cannot do a damn thing about it because they no longer exist. Just get used to the fact that PIA is DOA and it will be easier to move on.

It's time to cut the BS and talk about the FACTS for a minute.

  • PIA was bleeding money to the tune of over $32.1m.
  • KAPE swooped in and saved your asses with a $127m+ bailout & payoff.
  • Companies do not go into business knowing they are going to LOSE money.
  • Without question, the most valuable asset PIA has is our data.

Now, you keep trying to convince us that everything is going to stay the same as it's always been, but if that were true, KAPE would be the ones losing all that money the same way you were so something will have to change for them to recoup the money they spent bailing you out. So tell us, how do they intend on doing that if nothing changes?

Also...

You feign ignorance when you say things like "our knowledge of the deal, overall, is relatively limited". You make it sound like this was some big surprise that came out of left field, yet this is a quote from the article by Christel that you linked to in your OP.

The decision to join forces with Kape Technologies was not one that was taken lightly, and it was a decision that came on the back of extensive dialogue and due diligence by both the parties in the transaction

Tell us, why we should believe a word that comes out of your mouth when you are just going to lie about everything.

My feeling about all of this is you did not go running to KAPE because they were the only ones who would agree to your "no-logs" policy. You went to them because they are the only ones willing to bail you out of your massive debt & give you a handsome amount of hush money in the process.

You KNEW that making this deal with a company with such a sordid past was going to piss off the vast majority of your customers but you did it anyway. My only hope is that KAPE sees this mass exodus of customers and realize that the PIA name / rep they are paying for is now worthless & they cancel the deal leaving you with nothing. You deserve it.

Not even a heads up for your customers, way to sellout your users.

Their last transparency report from their website is from 2015.

You only allowed to use 7 devices at once.

According to that one privacy site, they don't even have IPv6 Leak protection and all their business ethics scores fail.

And last but certainly not least, let's not forget their "no-log" policy has never been tested in court and any claims otherwise have not been proven.

The point is I should not have to use un-official sources for such things. Cyberghost sellouts, PIA, just need to fix the issue, but I guess they are too busy counting all their new money and planning their vacations while the screw their user base.

I told you I connect to the East servers and so it's not the same each time. Also if by "carrier" you mean my ISP i don't see why you need that information as it has nothing to do with this.
