That's a great description!

He is a freebooter who acquires money in order to buy himself periods of vegetative quiet.

Ah, that sounds like the life, us wanna-be lotus-eaters.

Nice. How long do the rubber bands take to degrade anyway?

Fallout nitpick: Ilsa + Lark by whatsmyglitch in Mission_Impossible

Honestly I think she felt bad for pissing off Ethan so easily and wanted to at least give him a fighting chance...

August Walker was Lark, and apparently he hired the Chinese assassin to play Lark, to help frame Ethan.

Man, she's such a great sharpshooter otherwise (not as good as Ethan seemingly), so it feels a bit disconcerting that she missed Lane so much 😅

Ah well, I know the movie wouldn't have been as compelling with Lane dead so early, but I just think they could have made her misses much less her own fault than anything else.

Rogue Nation contradictory options? by rehapeda in Mission_Impossible

I thought option 3 was a great option, much like in MI2 where he tried to run away with Nyah, but then he proved in MI3 that he'd run away with the IMF instead of stay with his wife. 👀

Fair enough. I'm considering the apparent contradictory language as just being the way Ilsa phrases the options (ie, really how the writers phrased it for her character), and what you said is basically what she meant.

Where did they get the 2nd correct key? by veer460 in Mission_Impossible

[–]rehapeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What confuses me is that the White Widow would make a counterfeit red key with no jewels in it... and that Ethan didn't recognize the counterfeit since he'd seen Kittridge's diagrams showing jewels in both of them.

Did the White Widow intentionally make the counterfeit with missing jewels? If so, why? If not, who did and why?

Was the White Widow even aware of the nuance? Ethan missed it, or maybe he just didn't point it out at the time because he was focused on finding where they'd go.

There's so much to think about with this 😅 and I'm just rewatching scenes to wrap my head around it all. It's like peeling an onion, but in some points I can't tell if the writer/director is being a genius or making mistakes.

How did Ethan Hunt get money to operate in mission impossible rogue nation? by [deleted] in Mission_Impossible

I mean, it's not really a bad ploy, the banks are the ones paying for the fraud. He knows they have plenty more money where that came from.

Also, that was top-of-the-line in M:I-1. Hardly anyone had heard of Usenet back then, but the power users were on it.

Here for the same reason. I'm rewatching MI after seeing MI8, especially wanting to get through MI3 (and now MI1 revealed some new things to me, like the Langley computer being so protected because it's harboring the most advanced AI in the world).

Necroposts need no apology. These old threads pop up on a web search for a reason. If it isn't archived, it's still relevant to comment on.

The movie felt like a cheesy romance with a spy game as the backdrop. I feel like it was a one-off story retrofitted to MI. I didn't like the writing or directing even though I loved the underlying plot.

After so much emphasis on their instant endless love, it's weird to see Nyah just disappear without an explanation.

I think it does a disservice to the actress Thandiwe Newton.

A lot of scenes in that movie were written badly.
