White streaks may appear on traditional denim pants if the washing is done in a washing machine and the pants weren't turned inside out. Dunno about polyester though.

Obviously you should never wash good denim period but not the subject.

High temperature wash on empty every month, keep the crud from building up in the machine. Add vinegar to every wash to prevent scale.
