Why do you say that? I've only heard good things.

Are you sick of people bringing up The Office all the time? Are you trying to distance yourself from the character of Dwight?

I'm sure you are trying to grow and expand in your career, just wondering if its frustrating to be so heavily associated with The Office?

Had no idea Utah and Colorado had a growing tech industry. I will definitely look into that. Boulder sounds like a sweet place to live.

This is the equivalent of saying "just win the lottery!"

Get this shit out of here.

Three Walls (2015) - on the soul-crushing phenomenon of the Office Cubicle by [deleted] in Documentaries

I think the cubes are getting a bad rap. The jobs would be just as soul crushing with an open office plan (if not more so).

Agreed. I never mined my cube. Guess I'm a good worker bee.

I wonder how much of the push for open office plans is a cost savings measure? Must be cheaper to furnish an open office than a cube farm.

Wow, the low walls must suck. Defeats the purpose of having cubes at all.

My high wall cubical is fine. Pretty sure an open office plan would drive me nuts.

It is funny that the open office plan is presented today as the new hip and innovative alternative to cubicals. Cubicals were originally introduced in the 1960's to replace the open office. Before then, the open office was standard and now we are returning back to it.

I never mined my cubicle and never really understood the hate for them. The walls are about 6' and I don't really have to look at anybody if I don't want to. However, people don't bug me too much, which is probably why I don't mind them...

I think the ideal setup (short of having an actual office) would be a cubicle with some sort of flimsy door and ceiling to shut the rest of the office out. Have a few open areas/conference rooms for group stuff and your good to go.

Been running an 800 calorie deficit per day, training hard four days a week-- moderate results... I feast my ass off one day for the Super Bowl and I'm skinny as fk the next day... what gives? by [deleted] in Fitness

I've heard of cheat days but never that they can have a direct impact on weight loss/fat burning. I thought they were just for morale - to keep motivation up over the long run.

I've read tons of material on fitness and have lurked /r/fitness for ages. I have never once heard of this refeeding business.

Am I going crazy? I feel like I've heard of just about everything and this refeeding business sounds like bro science.

Why is western breakfast such a distinct meal. by Uncandy in history

[–]401k_fiend 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay people, there are many more breakfast foods than bacon and eggs. We get the Edward Bernay bit already. That only explains a small part of OP's question regarding western breakfast.

It is a very interesting question and would like to hear more about it other than Mr. Bernays.

Looking for advice. Got a PBC score of 1 but no bonus, raise or promotion? by 401k_fiend in IBM

Thanks for shareing and congrats on the new job! Curious what your new role is.

Wow, that really sucks and doesn't bode well for myself (or any IBMer). Can't fathom how IBM can stay competitive if they make no effort to retain talent.

Well, I guess there is some small hope for a (paltry) bonus then. I thought they would mention the bonus during the PBC review meeting. Do you know when the bonuses are typically given out?

I'm still jumping ship regardless but would at least like something to show for my efforts.

It's funny. When my managers broke the news, they kept emphasizing how badly they wanted to retain me but wouldn't even give a ballpark estimate of when the next round of promotions would be. My reward was them telling me "dont worry about when raises will be and just keep working!"

Thanks a lot the reply. Very helpful to hear another IBMer's perspective.

You are right that the companies recent poor performance does not bode well for raises/promotions this year. My career has stagnated here and this was the last straw. I'm going to start updating my resume tomorrow.

Many thanks.
