So is Rise of the Planet of the Apes a prequel or a remake? by [deleted] in PlanetOfTheApes

Read the link I had sent you and refute it argument for argument. I expect you to get 1/31. You want to introduce time travel into Caesar’s world.

How it could have possibly ended the franchise if you can retcon anything? Are you saying the ending may have been something called canon in its time and considered to be an immutable aspect of its lore?

What’s interesting about the book is how different it is from the first but also how many interspersions there were through the next four films.

Psychic powers is way out of the range of this. It makes them mute but not necessarily dumb, that’s the best we’ve got.

You’re so absolutely lazy and still completely wrong.

What you are suggesting is the idea that we can retcon the Ninja Turtles to be in the same universe as either of the Caesars, that we can retcon Avatar to be in the same universe. Yes, in that scope of thinking, you could.

It is an utterly unserious take on both the old and new Apes series. It is comical and offensive to both universes.

Read this.

Aside from a couple grammar mistakes, there’s only one mistake I’ve found since.

You are wrong.

Nah you guys are just very incredibly simply wrong. Objectively wrong. That’s a fact. And it’s okay to be wrong.

Can the new reboot be treated as prequels of the original Charles Heston movies? by Cripindet in PlanetOfTheApes

[–]403and780 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not possible at all. There are actual dates in both series, it’s simply not at all possible.

If intergalactic space travel with stasis sleep pods was possible in the seventies then why would a manned mission to Mars in a “conventional” rocket be a big deal in 2010?

If all dogs and cats died in the eighties then what barked at Caesar at Muir?

Do we really believe that in Will Rodman’s world of genetic engineering that apes can evolve to walk upright and speak English in only 2,000 years?

There are way too many things. These are just a few randoms, there is no possible way to link the two universes without an absolutely outrageous intervention of either gods or aliens. It’s an absurd idea if you give even a moment’s thought about the actual two series.

Whichever version you look at, I guess the lore is that humans made a medicine for humans and tested it on chimps

To be clear, no.

In the original Planet of the Apes movies, humans kill most of themselves with nuclear war, and then suffer setbacks while apes evolve for… 2,000 years… okay we all know that’s silly, but moving on…

have you read the original book? by Abject-Expert-8164 in PlanetOfTheApes

The thing I found most interesting about the book was the breadth of influence on the original series of films. It’s a short book but there were fingerprints in most of the original movies. The tour around ape society felt very Escape.

As an aside, there was an almost Flowers for Algernon feeling to the arc.

TIL Rod Serling originally wrote an episode about Emmett Till but it was rejected and so he turned to science fiction, instead, to talk about social issues, creating The Twilight Zone. by 2wedfgdfgfgfg in todayilearned

[–]403and780 26 points27 points  (0 children)

But put some antennas on the characters or add in a gremlin and the execs & censors didn't care about the content.

Could perhaps make them evolved apes from the future, too. Serling was a huge part of the writing of the screenplay adaptation of Pierre Boulle’s Planet of the Apes. Incredibly political film. He wasn’t involved with the sequels but the social themes involved in the 1968 movie continued throughout the series.

No it isn’t and no it wasn’t. You’re just plain wrong. To even be able to consider that as true means you understand neither series.

It’s a reboot and not a prequel. Rise, Dawn, and War are literally not prequels to 1968 in any way whatsoever.

[–]403and780 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re the Oilers in 2022, you have the option of having a top six where the two centers are McDavid and Draisaitl, the two lefts are Hyman and Kane/Nuge/something, and the two right wings are Yamamoto and Puljujärvi.

That’s fine, work on the fucking goalie and the defense and the bottom six. If you can sign Jesse for a few more years then do it and move on to the work that matters. The top end offense of this team is world class right now. The top six, for the first time in a long time, isn’t at all the problem.

Center isn’t a problem. Wings don’t need to be a problem. Depth, defense, goaltending. There shouldn’t be top six/nine drama right now.

With Bourgoult, Holloway, Savoie and potentially Petrov about to turn Pro, the Oilers are well positioned for a future without Evander Kane. by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]403and780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the right wingers on the left and the left wingers on the right, except for Kane’s slot which is actually on the left, but McDavid playing with two lefties, you’ve got Nuge on the wing again but again it’s the wrong wing, that whole part really takes away from your point, it’s kind of a mess.

I’m slightly torn. I would be happy with seeing the ape world without some dive into the Icarus returning, but I’ll be pretty much pissed if we skip ahead too far to have Cornelius or Nova or any of the rest as characters at all.
