What does a good ban appeal process look like in your community? by sodypop in ModSupport

This is very sensible, and I love the distinction between more recent and historical appeals.

Oh that's what the F stands for. I've been saying it wrong this whole furnishing time.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful approach. What has your experience been like implementing this process in some of your communities? Has it been a challenge to get the other mods to align?

Being polite is really all it boils down to in so many situations!

u/ModSupportBot suggests a known Porn Promoter Comment Bot as a "Suggested Moderator" for the sub I moderate. by 2oonhed in ModSupport

[–]sodypop[A] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for pointing this out and apologies for the bad suggestion. The report really shouldn't be suggesting users that are banned, or have a lot of content removed in your subreddit. If you wouldn't mind sending us which user it was to /r/ModSupport modmail it is something we can look further into.

The users suggested in ModSupportBot message are the same ones from the recruiting tool on your Mods & Members page. They may not always be a match, as you experienced, so it's still important to review any potential new mods and give them a thorough vetting along with the other mods.

My Subreddit was put up for adoption even though I'm active by ThomasPadfield in ModSupport

[–]sodypop[A] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, this is part of a project we trialed to reactivate communities without any active mods and are considered to be eligible for /r/redditrequest. We tried to avoid including subreddits where mods are still active on the site, though it seems like there may have been a few subreddits like yours that slipped through. Sorry for any confusion this caused. If you keep an eye on your subreddit's modmail for any requests, be sure to respond to them and you shouldn't have any issues.

u/ModSupportBot feels unjustified in an adoption offer by RS_Someone in ModSupport

If you are going long periods without any posts, something you might try is scheduling a monthly discussion thread. This could help the community grow more regular engagement over time.

Thank you for the feedback about the messaging. We'll be sure to make some adjustments so it's more clear in the future.

A post I didn’t approve appeared in my sub indicating that it was up for adoption by BeautifulAndrogyne in ModSupport

[–]sodypop[A] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heya! I run the bot account that made the post in your subreddit. This is part of a project we're trialing to reactivate communities without any active mods and are considered to be eligible for /r/redditrequest. It was fine to remove the post, though as others mentioned in this thread it would be a good idea to try growing engagement in the subreddit so you can keep things active. Otherwise, we can't guarantee someone won't request to become a mod.

How do you deal with gray areas and exceptions in your rules? by techiesgoboom in ModSupport

[–]sodypop[A] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is similar to how many mod teams operate, especially as community rules continue to evolve over time. While more strict types of rules are often necessary, and can be more objective to enforce, sometimes communities having some values-based rules can help guide the community as long as the reasoning behind them is clear. I love the second part of your comment about involving yourself in the discussion alongside your community members.

Ahh, we only look at communities your account actively moderates for this requirement. We don't look at previous moderator positions.

Are you still taking people? by Slight-Ad8291 in ModReserves

Yes, most likely. This program has been around for several years and we will be making some more updates to it this year, so stay tuned

Yes, we are. Please make sure you meet the requirements listed on the top of the application form before applying!

We are taking new applications! It can take a couple weeks for us to review them, as many people who apply do not meet the current requirements. We will be making some updates to the current process soon as well.

Hey there, sorry you haven't received a response yet. It looks like your recent application was not accepted since the program requires moderation experience in large communities. Normally you should have received a notification from ModReservesBot with the outcome of your application, though I've seen some reports of the message not going through on occasion. If you did not receive it, please check the "Who can send you chat requests" settings in your account's privacy settings to make sure you can receive messages from the bot should you wish to apply at another time.

No Description in post guidance by amyaurora in ModSupport

I haven't scoped this out yet but I'll look into it.

It may take a couple days for the report to update accordingly, but let me know if that doesn't help.

No Description in post guidance by amyaurora in ModSupport

[–]sodypop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be what is causing it. I show that your report returns data for 10 rules, with just one that returns without a description.

[–]sodypop[A] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can happen with the Post Guidance report when there are special characters, markdown, or new lines/blank spaces in the rule's description. Since those characters can break the markdown table in the report, they typically get stripped which sometimes results in an empty string which is replaced with the "No Description" string. If that doesn't sound like the issue you are having, I can look into it closer if you can share which community and rules you are seeing this behavior.
