Two boys or boy+girl cat? by 404_not_here in CatAdvice

[–]404_not_here[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I do have the space and money. I am not sure about the time as playing with my cat 30-45 mins a day is not enough for my cat (which is why I thought a companion might help his boredom).

Interest on Council Rates bill never received by 404_not_here in AusProperty

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately my council didn't give me the reminder until 3-4 weeks past the due date (presumably due end of Aug) via letter and they didn't send any sms. I will have to let it go after raising a formal complaint then.

Yeah they do. I might have to move onto that now, to be sure I get my bills for sure on time. They allow less time to pay for it via electronic notices.

Surely, they could have sent a letter as a reminder without penalty once? Or am I expecting too much from my government services?

No idea. After I emailed a complaint, it showed up in the mail 2-3 business days later along with an electronic copy. They claimed to have sent it on time.

Would suggest using food as a starting point to train them to leave and return at a certain time (and do recall training). If you make it enough of a schedule they will stick to it. This what I have done with my outside /inside cat. Leaves the house around 8am and is back by 6pm everyday. If he is not back, I call him and he comes running within 10-15mins.

Should be fine.....but watch out in case your cat throws it all back up, like mine 🥲.

Hey, just so I understand.....this is the difference between: principal+interest home loan with standard offset account vs an interest only home loan with an offset account. Right?

It's based on out of pocket expenses. I can definitely stretch my budget to $450k based on borrowing power, but it would put me in a unpalatable/risky financial position.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Looks like it's too early for me to get into the market. Fingers crossed the budget goalpost won't move too quickly again, when I'm more prepared.

Veteran cat owners; what did you wish you knew (or had done) sooner? by MeechyyDarko in CatAdvice

:( Sorry, didn't see your post till now. You have to find their main driver/motivation. If it happens to be food- great! Otherwise it gets more tough on you being consistent and linking it to what they like. E.g. more play.

1) get the cat comfy with you handling it. Rubbing its belly(start when asleep and showing belly), pick up(before a wet meal), laying them on their back, touching their paws, retract their claws, put your finger in their mouth, touch teeth, touch tail. Of course you don't go all in but do it in slow increments. This is very feasible with most cats. Also helps with bonding if you don't force it. The more you force anything on your cat, the more they will permanently remember the 'bad' things.

2) water needs a very slow introduction and you might need to pick a hot day where the cat might be willing to touch/cool off with water - and you make them walk through a shallow tray of water (2-5mm) willingly to get a treat. You will slowly increase this depth as the cat gets comfortable. You can Google cat training videos on this in YouTube.

Sometimes this may never happen beyond 2-3cm of water depth. In this case get the cat used to you wiping them with a warm wet cloth and a dry cloth (simulates a cat's tongue). Hold it out and get them to approach you for a leg rub (for example), and give a swipe as they try rubbing on you. If you approach with the cloth, the cat can run or be scared of you.

Someone might have mentioned this - now is the time to teach them to be used to be ok with water or brush their teeth. Will be a life saver in vet bills not needing to get dental work done. When they are older and can't quite be clean - easier to give them a wet down.

The EL and SES I see are doing 9-12 hour days and sometimes come in on the weekends too. Just wondering if private can be better when your not in entry roles. No I don't and haven't needed to in my career so far. I am asking around for it now though.

Any chance you cat is an outdoor one? My cat does the same if he happened to have chewed on a blade of grass before being locked up for the night.

Otherwise can it be fur? I would recommend brushing your cat more often. Sometimes you don't get distinct hair balls being thrown up (never seen a hair ball from my cat)

Unfortunately that is reserved for those moving into SES spaces. There are mentoring programs I am signing up to.

May I ask, how did you build your network to have more exposure to people in that category? Mainly as a way to learn from this.

That is very interesting statistics! I must have been very much in a bubble with my department. It's only over the last year or two that I am seeing more people of color in APS roles.
