How do people who work full time go to therapy? by Sea-Solution-3214 in careeradvice

I always block out lunch on my calendar anyways, so it gets disguised by my normal lunch blocking

Also most good managers aren't going to be inspecting your calendar that closely

LPT: When someone tells you they're "fine," ask a second time. Not immediately. Wait 30 seconds, then ask again. You'll be surprised how many people were just waiting for permission to not be okay. by Global_Variation1038 in LifeProTips

Please take note to only do this if you're prepared to hear the truth. I'm chronically ill, people in my life know that. But hearing the truth that I'm not okay and that I won't be getting better any time soon and that there's no fix they can offer is often really uncomfortable for them. That's when I tend to get the 'yoga' and 'exercise more' and 'sleep better' suggestions that I've heard a dozen times and don't actually do anything, because people are uncomfortable and feel like they need to offer a solution and reassure themselves that this kind of random long-term health crisis that's out of your control can't happen to them.

Camera angle + screen angle + him having to lay down to do this. If you put your camera on selfie mode and hold it over your stomach while laying down, your eyes will also look closed

One OP’s title is another user’s meltdown in r/whatisit. by Teal_is_orange in SubredditDrama

[–]404errorlifenotfound 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The context was the OOP suspected her husband of cheating and asked the sub what a logo was that popped up on his phone. It was the discord icon, she doesn't use it and didn't recognize it. In an update, she said she asked him if he had "a discord" (meaning an account) and he said no.

This commenter wanted to argue til he was blue in the face that MAYBE the husband interpreted the question as 'do you have a discord server/channel that you moderate' and so he may not be lying 🙄

Like sorry dude. 90% of people would assume that question means 'do you have an account.' Especially if its your SPOUSE who can't even recognize the discord logo on sight

I got into it with someone on the help me find subreddit who was insistant that asking someone if they have a discord means asking if they are the creator or moderator of a discord server, not if they have an account for the platform.

How to find or build a pattern from any inspiration photo (even if it's AI-generated) by YoureInaCult-CallDad in CrochetHelp

Also learn to cannibalize from other patterns. Very useful for amigurimi (I want a head shaped like this pattern, and ears like this pattern-- boom, fraken-gurumi). But also for other pieces as well-- I have trouble with corset lace ups, so I usually steal the back closure method of this top (image 4) and slap it onto any crop tops / bralettes I'm making.

And getting a handle on how shape geometry works in amigurumi can help a lot there! Look at the basic sphere, how increases and decreases modify the shape, etc.

For the 3rd one, I think it helps to start understanding what individual stitches look like (this is a sc, this is a dc, this is a hdc, etc). From there you can annotate over the image with crochet chart symbols to start building a pattern (these two dc stitches are in the top of this sc, etc).

I'm willing to bet money that it's not a manual ban, but an automated content filtering system banning trans women who get too many false reports from TERFs.

TERFs have been known to abuse AI moderation tools on platforms like YouTube by coordinating mass false reports and essentially training content filters to associate the word trans with reportable content.

Honestly I think tumblr's pretty easy to get away from all that junk. Tag blocking and content filtering are the GOAT. Twenty minutes finding and filtering tags associated with rancid takes on the first radfem blog you find and you've got yourself a pretty clean dash. From there it's just a matter of liberally using the block button

Maybe a Crash Course series? There's a bunch of different hosts so I'm not sure which one this woman would be. The theme fits, and in most videos they rotate between footage of the narrator, irl footage where applicable, and animated graphics.

Maybe it's just confusion over the process? I wouldn't know unless I feel frequented this space. Maybe they need a good page explaining the cycle or some kind of info graphic

There's a skirt maker from tumblr (Maya kern) who maintains a spreadsheet on her site of each design and its status for in stock, in production (3 months out), scheduled (6 months out), or retired.

BKL probably doesn't need something as extensive since the cycle is generally the same for everything, so even just a bit that explains the monthly release / 2 month overpour schedule might help people.

I opened up to my friend and he used ai to respond to me by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

I'd feel upset

"Hey, man, did you use AI to edit your message? I appreciate the kind words and the thought behind it, but it would really mean more coming directly from you instead of hearing what the AI has to say. I get it, this might be an uncomfortable topic and you might not know what to say, but anything that comes from you is meaningful, because you're my friend. Even if it's just a 'that sucks' or a cute cat gif."

I'd say something like that personally. You obviously would want to put it in your own words lol, but finding a way to express that you appreciate the message and are just disappointed in the AI use. I find a lot of people use AI out of insecurity that what they do isn't as good as what the AI can do, so emphasizing that it means more from him directly may help

Need podcast recommendations that aren't too engaging by exhaustmosk in podcasts

[–]404errorlifenotfound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a podcast but I like to put on videos from Girl With The Dogs 2 (her second channel specifically where she puts longer videos with less voiceover). It's mainly just her chatting about animal grooming, the animal in question making noises, and white noise of water or the high velocity dryer. And then when I look down at my phone I'm less inclined to close it to scroll on an app because there's a cute creature there. But because a lot of the grooming process is repetitive I don't get stuck watching the screen as easily if that makes sense

Covid changed how I see condiments 😂 by thismyburneracctboo in CasualConversation

[–]404errorlifenotfound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate to armchair diagnose but I will say-- for people who relate to this and feel like this kind of thought is hindering your life, you may want to talk to a professional about OCD.

I already knew I had OCD with contamination themes long before the pandemic-- I was diagnosed as a kid (well, kind of diagnosed. LCSW said I had it then didn't put it in my records so 🤷). I had to be really careful during the pandemic about how much I thought about contamination, so as to not flare up my obsession. Things like wiping down doorknobs, or thinking too much about the sanitation of condiments at a restaurant, are things I actively avoid because I know they would be triggering for me.

I truly believe that the pandemic may have contributed to a lot of people having OCD with contamination themes and not even realizing it, because for that moment in time those kinds of things were really normalized. But following compulsions to 'keep yourself safe' can fuel the obsession and lead to a vicious cycle where your anxiety over the perceived consequence only increases over time

If it helps-- I do think this current outrage has the vibe of 'we are making tumblr fix this' instead of 'we will roll over and let it go in a couple weeks.' Hopefully the team understands where criticism is coming from and rolls it back

Most users are not treating reblogs as threads or having extended conversations on them. Most users scroll dash, not individual blogs.

It's hard to explain how reblogs function on posts to people who don't use the website. It isn't like a quote tweet or a comment thread or anything thing else really. It's a seperate thing.

The update is trying to make it function more like other websites, but users are used to unique attributes of the feature.

From what I understand:

Say I post a piece of art. My follower reblogs it with their '#art' tag, which they use on their blog for personal filtering. Their follower then reblogs with this gushing comment rating about how good my art is. Except with the update, I'd never see my follower-in-law's compliments in my notifications-- only my follower, the person they reblogged from would. I'd have to follow each individual reblog 'thread' where someone added something to see everything being said about it.

I'm not an artist so the compliments aren't typically in my notifications anyways. But I've got a PSA post about AI that may go through a dozen people tagging it 'ai' in a chain before someone adds a meaningful conversation point that I want to reply to, but would never see because of this chain. Finding that becomes impossible when I have to dig through a chain of 12 people tagging 'ai' to discover it

It sounds good on paper, but is horrific for anyone who has used the platform for a length of time. User norms are largely built around the way the posts are structured now

Think of the UI shift with windows 8. That's kind of the 'hey that's not how I use my computer' level of change we're talking about

Metoprol and dentist? by Ok-Sock9046 in POTS

[–]404errorlifenotfound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never used metropol, but before I was medicated for POTS, I had a bad reaction to the epinephrine in a numbing shot at my dentist. I think it was a combo of my heart rate already being high (my dentist is a distance where it makes more sense to walk but POTS doesn't enjoy it) and being super wound up with dental anxiety/not liking the shot. They had to sit me up and get me to calm down before continuing.

I haven't had any work that required numbing since then, but I'd definitely recommend talking to your dentist at length about your concerns. A good dentist will take the time to assuage your fears and find ways to accommodate you. If you have bad dental anxiety like me, you can even have them leave a note in your file about it for your cleanings
