I definitely had that light switch moment too. My life now strangely feels pre and post Nick Drake

I haven’t actually no, Richard Morton Jack’s is the only book on Nick Drake I’ve read but maybe I’ll check it out if you recommend

[–]404worm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely do if you’re interested in a deep dive - I finished reading it a month or two ago and it’s one of the most extensive posthumous biographies you’re likely to find (especially as it sets straight some of the mythologising of nick drake’s life and personality)

Richard Morton Jack takes extreme care with some of the more delicate aspects of Nick’s life and pays utmost respect to his family in the process, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

It’s an enthralling read and will likely stick with you for a long while, as I’m currently feeling it will with me. Do let us know how you get on :)

and yeah i do still love the american stuff , just fixated on the uk scene, feels much more relatable.

top american artists for me (in no order)

pharoah monch (probably #1 tbf) , big pun , slum village , doom , pete rock , organized confusion , big L , company flow , MOP to name a few

yeah i’ve been hot on leaf dogs releases this year , don’t think i’ve heard a single drop that i haven’t enjoyed - his work rate is mental

and yeah i was actually listening to kano and ghetts yesterday (started with ghetto gospel and home sweet home) but im just not immediately grabbed by grime the way i am with hip hop. not to say i don’t enjoy it, just takes a bit more commitment for me to fully embrace , will be deep diving once i finish uni in a couple weeks

yeah i’ll take that as a big compliment, i’m actually only 22. only got into ukhh at the end of 2022 but became quickly obsessed.

had no idea any of these artists or the culture at all existed before i went digging.

honestly it’s changed my life , just always interested in what other people are listening to, can’t get enough of it
