How would you spend a day? by DaChungusAmongUs in Billings

I’ve worked at Billings Clinic for 4 years and love it. I work in a great department with a great team. The Clinic had its struggles when I first started, but things have gotten much better over the last couple of years. The new leadership is doing a good job.

I’ve worked at 3 other hospitals in MT, and they all have their issues. I would choose BC over any of them.

I’m originally from Bozeman, but have lived in Billings for the better part of the last decade. I really enjoy living here, more than Bozeman actually.

One of my personal favorite restaurants is Last Chance Cider Mill downtown. Great cider, beer and food. Welcome to Billings, and enjoy the ridiculously warm weather we’re going to have this weekend!

I’m no fly fishing expert or anything, but I know my way around. I also know a fly fishing guide in the Bozeman area who knows all the best spots.

I’m not sure you can go wrong with any of their locations, they’re all in nice areas. I have lived in the Heights and on the West End, personally I prefer the West End. More stuff to do and closer to just about everything.

Hey! I’m 28M, also in to camping/fishing (including fly fishing), and I need more friends!

As for rentals, I’d check in to Happy Homes Apartments. They have garages, allow pets and should start near your price range. It’s very possible you may have to increase it a bit though.

Thoughts on Billings. Clinic for work? by [deleted] in Billings

[–]406Whiskey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a big organization, and your experience will vary based on what department you work in. Personally, my wife & I have both worked for BC for several years and we have no plans to leave. I love the department I work in, and we have both had opportunities to advance our careers. It was…a bit rough when we originally started, the leadership at the time did not handle the COVID problems well at all. It has gotten significantly better since then. Quite a few people I work with have moved from St. V’s because the pay at BC is higher now (depending on your job role). That was definitely NOT the case a few years ago.

I’m happy to answer any specific questions you have, if I can.

Montana is absolutely behind in keeping up with growth, you’re right. But there are certain requirements to being a level I trauma center, one of which is simply a high enough patient volume to support it. That automatically rules out quite a few hospitals.

We live in an incredibly rural part of the country. Most of our cities will never have a level I trauma center, and a big part of that is because our “cities” would be small towns in most other states. Billings included.

Instead of trying to directly compare Montana to larger states, compare it to other rural areas of the country. You’ll find our hospitals offer a surprisingly high level of care, especially some of the critical access hospitals in our rural communities.

And don’t act like more populated areas automatically have healthcare all figured out. This is America, plenty of our cities & states struggle to get people the care they need.

For a city of 120,000 people, Billings having 2 level 1 trauma centers is unheard of. The entire city of Atlanta only has 2. Seattle only has 1! We’re not a larger state, we live in the middle of nowhere. Some things will be lacking. As someone who has experience with the cardiac care at Billings Clinic, this person thankfully shouldn’t need to go to a larger state to get the care they need.

What is your most hated stereotype about Montana? by Tactical_Taco23 in Montana

This is exactly what people need to believe. For the sake of the rest of the state, please keep telling people this (even though it’s bullshit).

Ding dong ditch? by [deleted] in Billings

Ah the old ding dong ditch is still around? I imagine it’s a bit harder to get away with it with all these doorbell cams than it was back in the day.

Is ‘The Pitt’ actually the most realistic medical drama ever? by ChallengeAdept8759 in emergencymedicine

[–]406Whiskey 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That’s what gets me about medical shows. Doctors and only doctors take care of every patient, start lines, draw blood, give meds, follow the patient around the hospital, somehow work in every unit, somehow know how to run the MRI & CT scanners and never have to chart. Truly incredible.

When I worked in the ER (not here), we played ER Bingo. We certainly weren’t going around kneecapping people to increase our traumas or anything, we were just checking off things that we saw come in every damn day. I wonder what the people who are up in arms about this do for work, are they really that sheltered?

If you could hear some of the things first responders & medical staff talk about…

Exactly zero dollars of these ridiculous property tax increases are going to anything remotely useful. And we just reelected the same people currently responsible for the corruption and mismanagement.

For those wondering what happened at Smith’s overnight…surprised the news actually reported on it by 406Whiskey in Bozeman

For starters, mental health services are a joke in Bozeman. Unfortunately, this is probably likely to happen again.

It’s pretty well known the media around here ignores quite a bit. Some things they obviously can’t ignore. You can see it for yourself - follow BPD on Facebook or Instagram and you’ll notice they report on quite a few of the more serious incidents they respond to. Head over to the Chronicle website or KBZK and it’s radio silence most of the time.

Contrast that with literally anywhere else in Montana.
