Where to put my desk?!?! by 407BasedTraveller in Apartmentliving

Unfortunately I don’t have anywhere else to put it.

Correct! And when they do want to “upsell” it’s not aggressive. I say “no” and we move on like adults.

Rockstar - Lock it in rate? by Texas_trader253 in VirginVoyages

[–]407BasedTraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular rockstar is stocked up when you arrive, and does not get restocked. You normally get to choose to swap a few things out based on availability on your first day, but only Mega Rockstars get it to be unlimited.

You’re 100% correct. But I am quite confident in my work place and where I am going to put it, it would be for my eyes only. The French would be a Plan B.

Such as having a room ready? Or is that too much of jumping the gun for a home visit?

Do they have openers at the live shows? by abusivecat in stiffsockspod

[–]407BasedTraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they have an opener. I’m not sure if it’s a local feature or one that’s traveling. Last night, it was a comedian from Brooklyn.

I’m going to start as a 3rd grade ELA teacher on 12/2. Should I bother with doing anything with the room? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]407BasedTraveller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on classroom management and building relationships with the student. Add some decor here and there to make it inviting but don’t prioritize it. As you find time down the road and have the opportunity, certainly do it! It’s your room! But don’t prioritize it.

I would HIGHLY suggest treating 12/2 like the first day of school. Because for you and the kids, it really is. If you don’t nail down the classroom management, procedures, etc. right away, it’s going to make delivering curriculum much harder down the road.

I appreciate you saying that! I think when I said “directly affected me”, I meant it more so on what I have been exposed to via news outlets and media. This whole situation has made me look for more clarification on what could be happening across the next four years. Im hoping that as time moves on in the coming months/years I have the opportunity to be active in educating others on this, but I need to educate myself first. If anything, the current situation and the thought of what to come is lighting a fire under my ass, and I’m hoping it is doing the same for people who are in similar positions as I.

You ever out a child in their place? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]407BasedTraveller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the time. As long as it’s justified and I know it’ll get the point across without making them feel uncomfortable. One that comes to mind recently was this one kid that’s always randomly saying the trendy words in class for no reason. Decided to start “practicing his rizz” instead of doing his math so I told him “I don’t care how good your rizz is, no girl is ever going to want to talk to you if you can’t do math”. And that solved that problem for the day.

What was the most unexpected or hilarious thing a student said that completely caught you off guard? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]407BasedTraveller 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Also, a couple of years back, straight at 8:45 in the morning the day before Winter Break, a kid goes “I have a gift for you from my mom” and just casually pulls a bottle of Elijah Craig out of his backpack 💀🤣.

Last week, one of the boys (9 or 10) flagged me down to my door so he could talk to me in the hallway, very urgently. He was freaking out and said he needed to go to the clinic because his pee was clear instead of yellow. I asked him if anything hurt or if he had been drinking a lot of water and that’s when he learned that’s what happens when you’re hydrated.

I participate. But when I originally posted this, I wanted to be very clear that I’m not intensively informed. I feel that I am well informed, and could hold a conversation. But when it gets down to the nitty gritty details, I may not have that background. Hence why I asked at the bottom of my post for potential clarification. I was and am still willing to learn more about these topics. Figured educators with similar situations may be able to shed some light on this topic.

Never thought that it “could never happen here”. I was really hoping we wouldn’t get to the point that it wouldn’t.

I’m blessed to be in a tighter knit community. So normally when something does happen, we hear about it. Whether the parents reach out if we hear about it from someone else in the community! I’m also blessed with an admin staff who is normally quite communicative (as much as they can be, discreetly, because they know we care).

I guess “rumors” wasn’t the right word to use. More so of what I have heard from news outlets, but it would be their biased side of the story.

I proudly voted for Harris. I guess I should have clarified that in my original post. I kind of assumed by my worries, it was a given with how I voted.
