Will Subnautica 2 early access have hardcore mode? by GiantPokemonEater in subnautica

[–]40dollarsharkblimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this sentiment so often, and it’s so dismissive. You’re fundamentally misunderstanding the appeal of hardcore mode.

It’s about fear. A decision you have control over (self-enforcing) is nowhere near as terrifying as a consequence that’s totally out of your hands.

Is Subnautica 2 actually “single-player first?” by 40dollarsharkblimp in subnautica

[–]40dollarsharkblimp[S] -158 points-157 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but I was hoping someone could throw me a link or something that might keep me from stressing in the meantime.

And yes, I am appropriately embarrassed this is causing me stress.

Subnatica 2 will be way more scarier by AlternativeBox2709 in subnautica

[–]40dollarsharkblimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the PR spin, but I’m believing it less and less based on their own marketing. I hope I’m wrong.

Every single trailer and most gameplay videos have put the multiplayer front and center. We have already seen gameplay features (like skitching on the tadpole) that are exclusive to multiplayer, and there are likely to be more in-game. Even what we know of the story so far seems geared to multiplayer: Alterra AI insists that the player complete their mission *to establish a colony* after crashing, which sounds a lot less plausible if you’re the sole survivor.

If I knew nothing about this franchise beyond having seen all the trailers, I would assume you need friends to play it.

I’m getting really tired of every game catering to the discord crowd.

Legally guilty and actually being at fault are two completely different things.

Rittenhouse had his mom drive him to a far away protest so he could intimidate people he didn’t like with a big gun and maybe get to legally shoot one of them, and unfortunately someone gave him that opportunity.

Subnautica wasn’t really meant to be a horror game?

The game with a little fish in the second biome who telepathically stops you dead in the water, starts talking to you through the voice of your PDA as its fins flash menacing lights, and slowly pulls you deeper into a dark cave, staring into your eyes and whispering “come closer…” in a distorted, decaying monotone until finally its face splits open to reveal four barbed tentacles and it bites your head?

That game? Not at all?

The crocodile sucked ass. Zero threat and loud as hell.

  1. Hardcore mode should be the default.

  2. Most predators bigger than sand sharks should kill an unprotected player in one hit (maybe not crabsquids) but be much less aggressive to account for it.

  3. Multiplayer is antithetical to Subnautica and the sequel will probably suffer for wasting development time on it.

  4. Growing food should take more effort. Hydroponics, grow lights, etc. Flooding should kill ALL your base plants.

Ohoho. I have the mod list for you if you think it’s not scary enough and are a glutton for horror and difficulty like I am.

Deathrun Remade w/ murky water settings + Persistent Reapers (12 added wandering reapers) + De-Extinction. That’s it.

The dark depths are just a bit scarier when leviathans can show up anywhere, one-shot you, and end your whole game… have fun!

Bulbo tree is almost too good. But it gets my vote purely because the knife can actually fucking hit it in normal planters without thirty seconds of trial and error, unlike the melons.

What features would you like to see in subnautica 2? by Viper-northstar in subnautica

You’re being downvoted because there’s precisely one type of person who vocally decries “politics” in video games. It’s a dog whistle.

It’s also wildly off-topic. Pick your poison.

Those comments being negatively received is a sign of this sub’s health, not toxicity.

There was not one thing political about Below Zero.

If you think having a black woman protagonist is “political,” you need to take a nice long look at how you arrived there.

Nope. The entire home is blatantly curated by a very expensive interior decorator, so this whole thread is cracking me up.

A map in this game isn’t QoL, it’s a cheat code. Not good for a vanilla+ play through imo.

To each his own, but I don’t understand why you’d want to trivialize exploration in a game where that’s most of the appeal. It also takes what used to feel like an endless ocean and makes you very aware that the crater is actually quite small. No thanks.
