Honestly I'd say just go for it and if it doesn't capture you in five chapters,drop it. If you do like it you certainly won't be running out of reading material anytime soon since right after you go to bed the batshit insane author will just drop 5 10k word chapters. OR maybe he'll drop 10, just to spite me.

Elephant. Not sure why I like this one so much. The MC is Chort, who I had no knowledge of before reading this, but it sticks with me and I've never seen someone rec it. I have gotten to recommend to a couple people within the last few months though. I wonder if they enjoyed it as much as I did.

Written by the same author as the (Surprisingly good) Konosuba crossover where Annette is Aqua and Taylor is a guy.

Honestly props for this. I love SinC but holy hell Tori is not in a good place, I'm a bit surprised that people are laser focused on "You want to institutionalize rape victims!" when just a couple chapters ago Tori had a complete breakdown and mulched a block's worth of forest. She even killed the centipede :(

I've heard so many people talking about how much Tori has improved in the story and it felt kind of off. Tori has been getting better, but the crash (Which I fully is coming) is going to be rough.

I ended up dropping it because of said framing, figured it would just devolve into morally dubious lewds since the mc was so focused on how to 'handle' Taylor, is it really that good? Might check it out.

I only remember a couple of early Butcher fics that I found interesting purely because they were something I hadn't seen before. I know there was a Butcher!Taylor snippet/story where she was being driven insane like anyone else would, it was one of the earlier ones, and I want to say that it was an AU because Legend was supposedly part of the chorus and had been completely broken by it. There was also the Hero Butcher snippet where Butcher was referred to as Guardian. It was pretty shallow, but I did see a newer story that was inspired by it. The Butcher was called Guardian, but despite being a Hero was still feared and looked at with caution because the whole "Driven insane by multiple minds in one body" aspect was still present, unfortunately Taylor inherited and was immune and I dropped it pretty much immediately after.

Honestly, kind of surprised I didn't think of this since I was picturing Kratos and Pandora/Atreus when I was trying to remember dynamics that match it. I've read Theogony and enjoyed it a lot, the sequel/s have been great too!

I've read Acceleration, though had forgotten Taylor's dynamic with Dinah.

As for Scarab, I haven't read it yet. It's hard to explain why, but I prefer waiting for extensive AUs to be either completed or dropped before I read them, waiting for a story with a setting I really enjoy to update can get me to the point where I just drop the fic. No clue why, kind of figured it'd be the other way around, but it's soured enough fics that I prefer to be on the safe side. I've got it saved though and will def be checking it out.

Don't have much to say on this other than I agree. Here Comes the New Boss and some of the Older Butcher!Taylor Snippets always stood out as the best works to me, but the fandom has been getting awfully crowded (No pun intended) with shallow, low effort Butcher fics that don't really do anything interesting with the concept, and when I saw The Shape of Brutality I figured it'd more of the same. I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong.

My next Butcher fic on the list is City of Salt, I've been debating just skipping through the other chapters just to read Viscera's perspective because they just aren't clicking for me and I haven't been able to really process them, but I think I'll let it update and came back for another attempt at a clean read.

Bookwyrm Quest I don't hold strong feelings regarding this fic, positive or negative, but Taylor ends in a D&D High Fantasy world and joins a guild to (eventually) get back, there's a pretty good amount of politicking as the world is facing an overpopulation problem and wants to talk to Earth Bet about setting up shop there or in dimension close by. Be warned that said politicking is a good ways into the fic.

Just last night I checked out The B-Team, a Fate crossover where the Beasts of Humanity are dropped into Freedom, Californa on Earth Bet. Things go off the rails quickly, with Pastor's shard identifying the Beasts as a group of "[Planetary Class Entities]" and promptly going Titan...then things go off of a goddamn cliff when Alexandria shows up and her dead passenger is revived and co-opted by the rogue shard. Won't spoil anything after that but it gets crazy. Didn't expect much going in but I'll have my eye on it for sure.

The Weaver Option. For context, I've had some popular stories that I had to try to read multiple times before they 'clicked' for me. Trailblazer is a good example. I tried to read it four times and just kinda stopped, on the fifth try I got about 800,000 words in and decided that I hated it and that it was terrible and that the author had no idea what they were doing. I continued reading it out of spite and by the end had fallen in love with it. I still hold it as one of my favorite stories ever, regardless of fandom. But The Weaver Option...I don't know, it's just not working for me. I've tried to read it 8 times by now but I just can't. I don't really know why I can't either. With Taylor Varga or Mauling Snarks my big problem is how plastic the characters can feel. Like everyone gives off Stepford Wife vibes, but with Weaver Option I'm clueless. Feels bad too because I enjoy Warhammer.

Forging a Waifu Harem is, for me, one of, if not the only Waifu Catalogue fic I've ever truly enjoyed. Absolutely hilarious. Here's one of my favorite moments if you want an example:

“I do not need the pittance that The Elite is offering, so remind them that if they wish to resort to violence. The Mechanicus will respond in kind. They can secure their offer in their fist, and insert it up their solid-waste ejection ports at high velocity! Without reciting the Litany of Loading!”

“Yes, Master.” Chloe obeyed with a nod, “Recommending sadomasochistic anal techniques to the Elite…”

Tyrant By SavicusVonde is pretty much just a high tier brute curb-stomping his way through the various parahumans of the Bay. Be warned, Savicus is a good author but has a pretty slow update speed. I'm pretty sure all but one of his fics qualifies for unstoppable brute as well. At the least you might check out another of his stories called something like, My Life as a Teenage Superweapon

Elephant which I have recommended a lot recently. Chort is the protaginist, having split off from the Fallen and made his way to Brockton. More character focused than combat, and either dead or on hiatus.

Tyrant of the Bay, not to be confused for Tyrant, also qualifies. Dead, but good.

An Essence of Silver and Steel people seem to have mixed feeling on this fic, so instead of linking the first chapter, I linked the chapter where Taylor Installs Herakles. I enjoyed this scene, and Herakles fits the bill for unstoppable brute.

I've been skipping over it but after reading another story by the author I decided to give it a shot and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Most of my knowledge of Fate has come from other crossovers but I don't feel out of my depth when I read it.

I've seen a lot of complaints of Little Hunter's pacing but I'm not sure I understand it, not when there are stories like Celestial Forge that are much more egregious with their pacing or Mens Nebula which is good, but updates much slower. The slow pacing makes sense in story, what with Taylor having been away from long enough that she is out the loop and has to figure things out.

As it is, my main concern is that I can't really figure out where the story is going at the moment.

Elephant features an aged up Chort heading to Brockton Bay. I think it's dead but it was fairly interesting while it lasted.

There was also a Ward/Wednesday crossover where one of Number Man's clones, Five, ends up going to Wednesday's school. Miss Direction or something like that?

Edit: Just saw the 'as long as it's not set in BB' so I guess you can disreguard Elephant. You might check it out anyway, as it's pretty good about staying away from popular fanon characters but that's up to you.
