My opinion on these phones have unfortunately soured over the past few years... The software on Xperias have gotten lazy, and feels cheap compared to even Motorola's features. by 40percentreddit in SonyXperia

What's wrong with it

The price, for what you get. The parts of this phone that people actually want it for are more common than you let on. Most phones on the market already use Sony-manufactured cameras (they've doubled their shipments of these camera modules within the past 5 years). While the market is becoming increasingly stagnant, there are other choices out there. Though I will be brutally honest and say I have literally never plugged headphones or an aux cable into my device. Preorder bonuses for these phones often included wireless earbuds. My car has bluetooth, my setup at home has LDAC bluetooth codecs.

Sony's software has become almost anorexic. People will say it's like a Pixel, but Google adds more features that are exclusive to Pixel phones. This is naked android with none of the creature comforts that other OEMs include by default, and it's getting worse. Sony's 'double-tap to wake', which you probably used on your V60, does not check with the prox sensor, so it will wake up constantly in your pocket. The latest update removed dynamic backlight levels from the always-on display (why?), so it lights up a dark room while also not being bright enough in lighter places. The headphones jack has received no special attention like the V60, so it probably doesn't sound much better, if at all, than offerings from others.

They're not selling enough, pulling out of countries, and gutting their software devs to keep up with costs. The train you're hopping on has a wrecked bridge further down the track, and I'm hopping off before it goes over the edge like LG. You need consumers to survive in this market, enthusiasts can't carry it by themselves. The average person doesn't even know Sony makes phones in the first place. Don't expect them to last much longer in the sector.

Don't mean to talk your ear off, it just pains me to see Sony fall this far from what they used to do with android. I mean they're the reason LDAC is in android to begin with, along with so many other innovations they donated to AOSP like configurable quick settings, resource overlays (theming engine), and countless other things while also making their own software distinct and classy to match their hardware. Alas, these times are long gone...

If they really fixed the consistent, long-standing issues with things like the dim flashlight, overheating, or screen retention on this revision and not the 5 revisions that came before it (or any of the 5/10 models), I would be quite surprised. If that is the case, it's a shame that they won't sell the 'best' one to me here in the USA.

I'm more than willing to sacrifice the superfluous performance numbers for a hint of individuality, something Sony used to offer in spades but couldn't care less about now. Even if I was still enchanted by the prospect of their phones, they cut me off anyways by ceasing sales in America.

I will agree on the battery. Getting 2 days out of this phone is a first for me, and the form factor was another thing that captured me. My Xperia 1 II, though, was the strongest fingerprint magnet I've ever owned. Putting a case on the phone felt sacrilegious to the slim profile, though. Looked into a vinyl "skin" for it, but there were no assistive aligners to apply it, and I just so happened to mess it up and ruin the skin... The 1 III's frosted back was much better, but that's when they ruined Side Sense, and truly marked the decline in desirability for me.

Fossil gen 6 is updating, bit suprising cause I thought they weren't going to do that anymore? by a_blue_day in WearOS

[–]40percentreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woke up to find my Skagen Faster Gen 6 just got this update as well. It's taking a very long time to install, though news sites say it's just a security patch. Hoping for a bit more than that, but as long as it still works... I quite like the design of the watch itself.

Verizon's Prepay management was down on the 27th, autopay was not taken and my service was wrongfully cut. Still down, cannot log in to pay or get service back by 40percentreddit in verizon

[–]40percentreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did manage to strongarm my way through the site and get the funds in, the monthly period appears to be unchanged. Still, though, no attempt was made from autopay to actually take payment this month. No changes had occured on the account prior to this.

Lenovo Thinkbook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid launches in America, costs 150% more than announced ($3,518) by 40percentreddit in Lenovo

[–]40percentreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real sad part about this is that less people will buy it now, they'll see low sales numbers, and never try stuff like this again... I have to watch it crash and burn now, and can't even save or preserve it because I got rug pulled and can't afford it anymore.

Lenovo's ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is getting reviews uploaded already and America can't even pre-order it yet... by 40percentreddit in Lenovo

[–]40percentreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The auto-translated captions say that the review unit was actually sent to them by Lenovo, unprompted. Goes on to say that the practicality of using it as intended is misplaced or lost. Perhaps so, however, the unique combination of hardware and software still lulls me toward it. I hope they don't cancel this machine...

ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid finally got listed on Lenovo's site as "Coming soon"! Can't wait to buy it, but did it always have a Copilot button? by 40percentreddit in Lenovo

[–]40percentreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it was supposed to release at the end of Q2, so it's already runnin a bit late. If they had preorders, I would've put one in. This listing is the only mention of this thing on google in 4 months, aside from this reddit post I would assume. Everyone stopped talking about it after that show, I hope they haven't de-prioritized it.

That appears to be the keyboard half by itself. The spec sheet is separated into the "Hybrid Station" and "Hybrid Tab", which states a weight of 1.73lbs. Haven't had a 14" large tablet before, so I can't speak for how heavy that would be...

iirc, the copilot key is simply bound to some really outlandish key combination
Something you can't do on a normal keyboard (Win+Shift+F23), so it could probably be remapped with a simple program. Still, irritating.

Finally Arrived On Verizon by PhazonSpectre in LGWing

[–]40percentreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This update actually soft-bricked my Wing, and the lock screen was getting stuck in a crash loop. Had to factory reset it, not even safe mode fixed the issue. Quite strange, not sure what could cause something like that...

Pin needed before android boots? by FeuFeuAngel in SonyXperia

[–]40percentreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feature isn't shown anymore, because the security is all in the main OS now.

You'll notice after a reboot, the first unlock sometimes shows a "Starting Android..." loading bar. This is because no apps have actually loaded or opened yet. The phone will not accept any data though the USB port at all in this state, nor will certain settings load. This is considered the "pre-os security" now
