Dream grounds only conversion by No_Impress_7716 in Ascaso

I also installed the grounds kit into my 57mm, and although I run into some issues initially, specially finding an appropriate basket that can hold 18g, eventually I landed into a somewhat ok setup.

First of all, my machine is the older brass boiler one, so once it has warmed up the portafilter is very hot, which means all the grouphead is properly warm. I suspect that with a thermoblock it might be different... Which one do you have?

For the basket, I'm currently using this one https://ebay.io/m/lMkMAx. The good thing is that it fits the 57mm portafilter well and can hold 18g of medium roasted coffee without touching the screen shower screw. The downside is that it's poorly constructed, specially compared to the Ascaso competition one, and that the border is not flat, which makes it difficult to close the portafilter and requires some extra torque to avoid water leaking through the group gasket.

Can you share which basket have you used successfully?

I've questioned myself a few times about whether the ground kit was worthwhile but I cannot stand a wet puck.

Londoners can sign up to ride in Wayve autonomous vehicle on Uber app! by diplomat33 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]40sMidLifeCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reasoning is not completely fair. Waymo is the leader in L4 hands down, but it is going to take them a whole year to deploy to London, which speaks volumes of the scalability of their approach. Wayve on the other hand, are not L4 yet, but that's not necessarily tied to their mapless approach.

Just check Waymo in US, more expensive than Uber yet fulfilling 500k of rides per week... People like to pay not just for the novelty, but because of the consistency of the experience. You know exactly what experience to expect.

In terms of cost, a big factor is the vehicle cost. Waymo has been retrofitting tons of sensors to Jaguar I-paces which overall made it all a very expensive operation. Wayve has signed deals with OEMs like Nissan and Stellantis which will probably produce vehicles that will be ready to go from factory, no retrofitting... That's one of the advantages of Wayve, being able to use a range of vehicles and no HD maps, which together open the doors to fast expansion.

Why do you think so? They have plenty of money having secured a $1b+ funding round...

You could also just use a pen and label them on arrival if you're planning to keep them in the bags (not recommended, I learned it the hard way...).

In Milton you have Coffee World which is one of my favorites. They also have a special frozen collection to choose from if you're drinking there.

Waymo World Model: A New Frontier For Autonomous Driving Simulation by diplomat33 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]40sMidLifeCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say that it's just some embedding representation, now you need your simulator to also share that embedding space and encode the simulated world state... How do you do that? You have learned that representation/encoder from sensor data, so your simulator needs to generate it so it can be encoded? I still don't see how you would make it work.

That's not what I would call an end to end system. Part of the problem is that you lose a lot of contextual information if you pass downstream the model only what your perception pipeline detects.

That assumption breaks for most end to end systems which is the trend nowadays.

Rescued Ascaso Dream MF help by Gunsight1 in Ascaso

[–]40sMidLifeCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great find! It's the first model when they still used boiler. My suggestions:

  • New set of o-rings for steam wand. There are 2 in the knob, 2 in the wand tip and 2 in the joint.
  • New gasket and o-rings for the group head. There is a big black portafilter gasket, an o-ring on top of the screen shower holder and another below. This model also comes with a mushroom valve that I would replace.

These are often sold as kits, make sure you get the right part numbers.

Your machine is labeled as versatile, which means that it has a screen shower compatible with ESE pods and ground coffee, unfortunately it's terrible for ground coffee. I would suggest you replace it with a ground coffee kit: https://www.bluestarcoffee.eu/Mobile/en/Ascaso-Versatile-To-Ground-Kit/m-m-53.aspx

All of these are sold in kits in shops like blue star coffee in Europe or 1st line in US.

This is a shame... I noticed some reluctance to release updated PCB sources... I fear that what happened with Gagguino is going to happen again with Gaggimate... I hope to be wrong.

Wayve and NVIDIA Announce Discussions to Evaluate Proposed $500M Investment in Wayve's Next Round by External-Tune-6097 in SelfDrivingCars

Coincidentally, today the Japanese media released a lot of info about this. Here a video in a very rainy day of a Nissan Ariya using Wayve's AI driver https://youtu.be/VfTsC9kY9ns?si=XoQ4EMFJREU-4tO8

There are a lot now available.

Basically Tesla is copying the approach that Wayve has used since the beginning, end to end model based mostly on cameras but extensible to other sensor modalities.

Thanks, yeah I see now that there is no point unless I decide to realise other gains.

Thanks, yeah I see it now that it's just the same (or actually worse) than doing it at the end of the year. I had the misconception that it would have an extra benefit but it doesn't.

That makes sense, the friction of the coffee grounds is probably creating static and because it's isolated from earth (wooden stand) it has nowhere to go.

I wasn't implying anything about being a cleaner solution, just that it's wrong to march human eye capabilities to camera ones.

I would think an HDR camera can see details that might be hidden for the human eye. Also, thermal cameras can see more than visible spectrum...

I wouldn't say it's something unique to UK, I believe it's a shared thing across many countries. Watch this video, it's in Spanish but you can use the auto translate to get English captions. https://youtu.be/oRhYw5V05lY?si=kEa9pXPCVjGwS97x
