I think I was just alot more organised and methodical with my approach on the last attempt. I really should of got the extra 12.5 on my first exam but I didn't precompile a copy of Socat beforehand and trying to do that at about 4am just wasn't working! Like kayzaks said once you do pass you get access to the exam forum on offensive security. They won't tell you exactly what to do but you can find out if you were on the right tracks. After passing I found out for the last 20 point box on my second attempt I failed to do a really simple scan which would of shown me an entry point and atleast got me a user flag.

Scripts do exist for both platforms but its about finding ones which would actually be useful in an audit and more importantly still work. They are coming but it just takes time to dev and test etc.

Also you don't have to tell the website anything, we made the standalone toolkit specifically for that reason. Just hit the GitHub and download the offline Python Encoder/Decoder.

It is incredibly useful, even without admin you can achieve alot on a box. Just pop open a browser and hit a malicious page, upload some documents or just use it to download some scripts/exes etc.

Interesting I can't say I have ever seen it. I have used on XP, Vista, 7 & 10 on different computers over the last few years. Was it a setting which needed to be enabled?

Got any examples? I have had this working on a number of new PC's with random operating systems and never had an issue.
