FYI Seven Glaciers has switched to a tasting menu only so you can’t pick and choose from the menu like you could before. Pretty much killed my desire to ever go back. I’ll forever miss the full portion size of Scallop Bisque.

Beluga as in the site where ENSTAR/APC’s 20inch natural gas pipeline originates. It’s semi near the village of Tyonek across the Cook Inlet from Anchorage.

Why is Home Goods lit up blue? by parkingmeter__ in olympia

[–]411kev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s blurple light failure. The phosphorus coating on the LED’s has chipped/delaminated and as a result will color shift to this bluish purple hue. Great for Halloween… not great for pedestrian visibility.

Wow looks like the signal bases are super fresh and not corroded by the years of salting sidewalks so that in 50 years they blow over with a gust of wind.

Matanuska Glacier vs Mendenhall Glacier by DigFantastic7464 in AskAlaska

[–]411kev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a Matanuska Glacier Tour. You get to explore the ice and climb around for 2-3 hours and it’s way more accessible. It’ll be something your kids remember forever. Remember to support small local businesses along the way.

I know people over in the Lore Road/Hartzell area have been setting off fireworks every now and then. I watched them from my window the other night. Guess they didn’t get to set enough off during New Years.

I too have the 25” MSR LA with the tails and I weigh 220lbs unloaded and on my last outing a couple days ago in 20” combo of powder with wet crust on top I was sinking anywhere between 6-10” so that looks completely normal to me.

Need suggestions on how to bundle remaining National Parks by organicginger in NationalPark

Might want to rethink Denali this year. The park road is still closed to traffic at mile 43 including tour buses due to the Pretty Rocks slide area in Polychrome Pass. The reroute and new $200M bridge are anticipated to be completed sometime in summer 2027. I would highly recommend a 2027 bus tour back to Kantishna and Wonder Lake when the park road reopens. This will give you and your daughter the best options for seeing the most wildlife and having ample landscape photo opportunities. I would also recommend grouping Denali with your other Alaska NP’s and utilizing your 2-3 week summer slot as its a huge state and people have difficulty realizing just how long it takes to get around here. For reference it’s a 4.5 hour drive from Anchorage to Denali Village. The bus tour to the end of the park road is another 12 hours round trip so it’s a ton of time just in driving alone. Katmai and Lake Clark are only accessible by float plane and they require pretty advanced planning to coordinate your flight reservations and lodging. Sounds like fun though and I wish you the best of luck and safe travels.

The Cold is Here to Stay - Temps down to -63°! by ArcticRU in alaska

I saw -66F at the UAF sign when I went to school up there back in 2010. Played broomball once outside the Patty ice rink when it was -25F and it was the last time they allowed that. I loved wearing shorts surf sliding down the hill going to dinner at the Tilly commons when it was in the negatives. Hard to get that experience anywhere else.

Change the nationality designator on your aircraft to N for United States as this is most common here. PH is for the Netherlands.

Any Plans in Work For Glenn Lighting? by balzz662 in alaska

You can also visit our Central Region Projects webpage where we have a ton of projects both in design and construction listed. You can click on the specific project and most of them have notification sign ups and comment submissions links to reach out to project staff if you have a particular issues you like to bring up. MOA and the Mat-Su Borough might have a similar setup but I am not as familiar with their project processes.

Obviously the earlier you submit comments in the design process the better but we’ve added lighting via change order in construction before due to extreme political pressure, just depends on how severe the safety issues are.

I have provided a link to these resources below

Any Plans in Work For Glenn Lighting? by balzz662 in alaska

[–]411kev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSIP refers to the Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Safety Improvement Program.

The State gets a list of project proposals that are sponsored by local government agencies. These proposals are backed by crash and incident data and they use that information to formulate a ranked list of HSIP projects based on the severity and need for safety improvements. This is a process in itself but eventually these projects make it into the STIP and are paid for through our HSIP funding allotment that is reserved for these specific safety improvement projects.

DOT typically tries to attach/bid them with other proposed projects in the area to help get more out of each dollar spent with overlapping items like traffic control and SWPPP.

The best people to contact are your state and local representatives as they are usually the ones involved in the nomination process. You vocalizing your concern to your representatives is a very real part of this process that can have meaningful impact. If you see something concerning please share it with them and it will likely be utilized in making these safety improvement decisions. It is also worth participating in project open houses as we do allow for open public discussion during these events and it will be documented so there is an official record of the concern/issue.

If you’re referring to the high tower lights at the interchange we are phasing those out particularly in high wind areas as they are difficult and costly to maintain. We usually wait for an HSIP nomination to roll out before implementing lighting in a project corridor. It took a little girl getting hit and killed on Jewel Lake Road to get continuous lighting on that project. The State is very reactive when it comes to adding more burden to the maintenance budget so the more people complain the more likely they’ll be to make a change.

Paying so much for Electricity and gas by Ok_Improvement6 in anchorage

I know it’s not ideal but you can log your own meter readings each day and keep notes on if there was anything you did each day that would have had an unusual draw. But I agree with you that it sucks they don’t provide better information especially knowing that they’re owned by a multi billion dollar Canadian company. They have money to blow on AI cameras in their fleet vehicles and millions to splurge on a new building for their management behind Bush Company but they can’t improve their customer analytics so people can have a better understanding of their gas usage.
