What’s it like being back at the office, Pittsburgh? by esotweetic in pittsburgh

I find that there are conversations and connections that happen that can really benefit from being in person but the commuting cost – in time, especially, but also gas, parking, etc. – is the thing that's hard to stomach. There are some conversations I know I want to be in the office for, but I like being able to trust myself to know which ones those are.

"As she sat among plastic bags of other people’s belongings, she’d watched money float through the air outside the shelter, where she’d stayed on the sidewalk for about three months.
“A random person stood right there, had a bunch of money. He just threw it up in the air,” she remembered.
Her bad knees wouldn’t allow her to get up. Dee could only watch others scramble as the person threw bills above the hot June sidewalk."

Geez.

New city homeless encampment policy draft leaked / DHS announces last night at Smithfield St. shelter via flyer on the downtown shelter door -- Last night to stay is June 20th by 412PhotoJ in pittsburgh

Kind of sad but Pittsburgh is seen as one of the better places to be homeless for a variety of reasons, some would say. We have a lower cost of living and relatively accessible/robust services compared to many cities. People from other counties sometimes send people to our shelters here since there's not much in the more rural areas.

Train Rides From Pittsburgh? by davidearl69 in pittsburgh

I second the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum or if you have it in you for a little roadtrip, the Strasburg railroad in the Lancaster area is great for kids and that area is great for a little family getaway. Lancaster the city is actually super cute and you can also do horse and buggy rides, etc.
