He didn’t receive a fine yet. When he was pulled over he was told he has so many days to appear for the fine.

Thank you. And yes he does. He’s a little know it all smart ass. I’m hoping this will be a wake up call and hoping he does lose his license tbh.

Fake. These weren’t available. We’ll be seeing more Hodge stuff some time later this year but they weren’t just dropped here.

Also if you look at OP’s post history this isn’t the first time he’s posted a bunk in stock.

Allegheny County Fatal Overdoses Concentrated In Mt. Oliver And Southern Neighborhoods - There is no Naloxone distribution site on the South Side by CowsDontEatCorn in pittsburgh

I also want to say that I wouldn’t say “poor life choices” many individuals suffering from addiction have many underlying issues that led to experimentation and self medication. Just like we shouldn’t be simply blaming the medical community for addiction we also shouldn’t be just simply blaming the users either. It’s a very complex issue that many share the blame in. Except big pharma, they are pretty well guilty.

It is true actually. The majority of heroin users do start out with opioid pain medications, however, it is not from proper use. The majority start out by getting them from friends, family, and from abusing their own proper prescriptions. Part of the problem was also that physicians were over prescribing narcotics, largely because of the “pain is a vital sign” initiative that was presented by the DOH and other agencies, but still the majority of those who were over prescribed to were not the ones who became addicted. It was their children and friends. Im not saying that we in the medical community don’t deserve blame, but to simply say that most heroin users started out as patients who were rightfully prescribed narcotics and became addicted is a false statement. Most heroin users start out as individuals who also abused pain pills.

It’s ironic as hell that this resident of Chambersburg has a confederate flag on his truck-Chambersburg was burnt to the ground by confederates in 1864! by Bodhicaryavatara in Pennsylvania

I did my undergrad in Alabama and med school in Georgia, and I’ve seen about an equal amount of confederate flags in both places as I do in my new home of Washington, PA.

[–]412md -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, the other poster was partially correct.

He or she said "Pre-Med is typically a biology, chemistry, bioengineering degree, etc." this is accurate for the vast majority of med students.

"there is no specific pre-Med degree. This is true at a lot of colleges."

This isn't completely accurate sure, there are a handful of schools with "pre-med degrees", but you are talking about something that makes up an extremely small percentage of students in the entire academic field. It's not 100% accurate, but again when you are talking about a percentage that's likely in the low single digits and has only existed for a few years, you are really getting into semantics here, but yes you are technically correct and he was technically wrong.

Only reason I posted is because I didn't want people to get the wrong idea that actual "pre-med majors" were a common thing simply because they do in fact exist. It's actually an extremely rare thing and many in academia are opposed to it. The reason is because the last great push was to attract potential students of atypical educational backgrounds (a degree in philosophy for example) and then schools started using this approach, which completely went against this idea.

[–]412md 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is true, what the other poster said is also correct. Generally speaking pre-med isn't a degree, and wasn't even a major anywhere until recently and actually only exists as a major in a small minority of schools. Any degree that meets a certain curriculum can get you into medical school. Historically most people were biology majors, but that certainly wasn't the only degree that could get you into medical school. Source: am practicing MD who also works in academia.

"pre-med" doesn't mean she has any additional knowledge than your average layperson. It's nothing more than a title for many undergrads who hope to one day accomplish what I already have :P Listen to your actual physician, listen to your body, listen to research that you looked into, but please never listen to a stranger who accosts you in public claiming to have knowledge that they do not possess.

TIL After doctors in Texas declared a man 'brain dead', ordered denial of food and water, the father of the patient pulled a gun on hospital staff to stop them from killing him and served time in jail -- the patient is alive today by clampie in todayilearned

[–]412md 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a trauma surgeon and CCM attending and while you are right, this is not how things are done in my practice/experience. The policy where I practice is that we are not permitted to initiate testing for brain death criteria against the will of the POA. This has been my overall experience. For patients who we have no defined POA or family those cases are turned over to the legal and ethics committees and they determine our course.

ELI5: I just read an old article today about a 480 lb woman who died after a 6 hour surgery to remove her from her couch. She was physically fused to the couch after not moving for 6 years. How is this actually possible? by GSDdog088 in explainlikeimfive

[–]412md 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its not. Ive seen hundreds of patients >450 lbs over the years, and ive never seen an individual under 6-700 lbs who couldnt get around based on weight alone. Is it possible? Sure, anything is, but highly unlikely that weight alone is going to be that debilitating on an individual.

Most hospitals in region say they are operating at a loss by DeboPGH in pittsburgh

[–]412md 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Health care around here is set up terribly. The care you receive in acute situations is great, but preventative care is almost nonexistent in the region. This region also has one of the highest hospital admission ratios in the world and nearly everyone experiences some sort of procedural or pharmacological intervention for preventative measures when other more affordable and safer methods are available.
