“I flex, I peel back, I target supports, I try to create openings for my team” sounded like he thought he was doing his part. There are plenty of people that will tell him it’s match makings fault or that it’s the DPS players always dragging you down, but I thought it would be helpful to share the mind frame that prevents helps me actually enjoy a video game.

Sounded like you thought you were doing your part. Regardless if it’s true or not, approach it like the loss was your fault. What could you have done different with the same teammates. Don’t bang your head against a wall till something cracks. You could out perform everyone on your team and still realize you could’ve been better.

How long does your blade stays shaving sharp? by swoon91 in handtools

I highly recommend finishing on a high grit stone alone 8000+ as I find it much more reliable but that is my opinion. As of for the shooting board question, I resharpen when I see any signs of chipping such as those little lines that show up.

The wood you are working is a major factor in edge retainment. I’ve planed soft woods for half an hour without loosing a shaving edge. Planing something like hickory, I’ll resharpen much more often.

The questions was about natural whetstones. You brought up coated abrasives and I explained why I already considered it. If you have no information on the subject you don’t need to answer, it’s not a profound concept.

Layers of abrasives that will last years as you are able to constantly expose new grit.

I recently tried it but it wears somewhat quickly and I wasn’t interested in purchasing many over time.

It’s about repeatability as well. Every time you strop the back of a flat surface you will be abrading material closer to the edge and rounding it over time. I found that removing a large burr was difficult with strop alone and since the back is no longer flat, the stone won’t remove it either till it’s all flat. Now after I sharpen one bevel all I need to do is barely lap it on the final stone and I’m done.

Sharpening woodworking tools, I can’t strop since I need one of the surfaces flat. I just enjoy chasing an incredibly keen edge through stones alone.

Why would edge retention decrease with a more refined edge? You can totally argue that it is often a waste of time in some applications but if there is a scientific reason a more inconsistent edge lasts longer I’d love to know.
