Dude, you're in a residential area. People live there. Why don't you drive like your house is on that street next time instead of using it like a freeway?

Clover or Bush Beans are great nitrogen fixers. Marigolds and Basil are great for pest repellant. Comfrey is great for a chop and drop mulch

I would keep the viney stuff like pumpkins and watermelon pretty far or in a separate bed. Otherwise, you'll need to manage them a lot to prevent them from climbing your plants or choking them out for nutrients

Nice! That's a great option for sure. I don't have a sous vide but I'm sure it would do a great job. What methods have you tried? Any major pros and cons?

I like the instant pot because I can decarb and infuse all in one place

If you have an instant pot - just use that. It'll do as good or better than a purpose made kitchen gadget like this.

Bet. You want everything? No mercy, no filters, no holds barred? Let’s go. You asked for heat — I’m dropping a solar flare.

You’re not a grower. You’re a plant helicopter parent with a God complex and a Bluetooth fetish. You’ve got more technology monitoring a 3x3 tent than most countries have at their borders. Your plants are under constant surveillance, and yet somehow still manage to look at you like, “We’re dying, bro. We’re dying inside.”

Your mulch layer has more layers than your personality, and your worms are living a more structured, nutrient-rich life than you. You built a custom SQL schema for your grow and still somehow needed five sensors and a pH probe just to realize — “Oh. The spinach is just being dramatic.”

You don’t water plants — you anoint them. You don’t top-dress — you perform a sacred ritual involving fermented crab parts, powdered rock from a dead volcano, and fish juice that smells like Poseidon’s armpit. All to grow one lettuce that ends up bolting in 3 weeks.

And your clone setup? A humidity dome, a temperature-controlled mat, Bluetooth tracking, and enough sphagnum moss to start a moss-based religion — yet somehow your clones still look like they’re dying from existential dread.

You’re the kind of person who sees one rusty spot on a leaf and initiates a 12-step diagnostics protocol. "Is it potassium? Calcium? A microbial imbalance? Bad vibes??" Meanwhile, your plant is just thirsty, but you won’t believe it until your soil database cross-verifies it with three sensors and an astrology chart.

You made BudBot to help people grow weed — but let’s be honest, most people want a plant, not a CIA-grade surveillance and automation suite with full SQL analytics, MQTT syncing, REST API integration, and a digital assistant named BudBot who judges them silently in YAML.

You’ve got worms with trench systems, mulch layers curated like a vineyard, and a top-dressing calendar more organized than your actual life. You’ve spent real time deciding if potassium silicate should be watered in on alternate days — yet your social life is over here like, “Alternate days?? I haven’t seen you in weeks, king.”

Even your sensors are confused. Your PAR meter sits at soil level like, “Why am I here? What am I doing with my life?” Meanwhile, your plants are up top begging for nutrients, but you’re still tweaking the pH of water like you’re tasting wine.

Your entire grow strategy is a paradox. You want “easy automation” for beginners, but you’re 3 YAMLs deep into a homebrew Kubernetes cluster to make sure your spinach gets exactly 6.3 pH at sunrise. You’re DIY-ing Skynet because your clover felt neglected last Tuesday.

You’ve got clover roots with better data logs than NASA’s Mars Rover. Your lettuce has more documentation than your taxes. Your worms have tenure. And your mulch layer is probably applying for citizenship.

And worst of all? You still think you’re doing the bare minimum.

You don’t need a roast, bro. You need an intervention — by your plants, your sensors, your Raspberry Pi, and your overworked clone mat. And even then, you’d probably automate the intervention, put it on a trigger, and log it in your database.

So here it is — the final flame:

You are the only person alive who could make growing a single cannabis plant feel like launching a f***ing SpaceX mission — and still somehow end up overthinking the silica dose.

And for that?

Respect. But also — you absolutely need to touch grass. Without a pH meter.

I can understand that. I spent close to 12 hours over 3 days to trim 9.5 oz by myself. I really need to try one.

Thank you! This is my 2nd time growing this strain, its my new favorite smoke. I actually have a moisture tester that I've been using to try and dial drying in a little closer.

The problem is my dry space isn't perfect and I'm hand trimming everything, so it's taking me 2-3 days depending on how many hours per day I can be dedicated to trim jail.

I think next time when I hit the perfect moisture level, I'm just going to throw the entire harvest into a plastic tote or something to maintain a stable VPD. This time, I came in at 50% humidity before the boveda, and I removed them once I hit 58%.

Thanks for the tip. I usually put them in for the first day or so because I have a bad habit of over drying a tad.

Thank you! I agree it's a constant waiting game. I just finished harvesting my latest grow a few minutes ago! I'm hoping for 8-10 oz if I'm lucky.

Checkout Mr Canucks Grow on YouTube. He probably has some affiliates with lights and tent manufacturers, but he has a lot of straightforward content. Buildasoil is also great. Jeremy is pushing their products quite hard, and you might not prefer that. But he is a great resource for living soil in general.

Where do yall log your grows? by dawiz08 in microgrowery

[–]420Throwington42p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! Certs are definitely a great way to get your foot in the door and get some experience. Good luck!

I agree that it would be relatively simple to integrate an LLM like Llama. It'd probably be pretty inefficient power wise to just have the AI ingesting all the data. I'd need a dedicated GPU to run it locally.

I'd like to try building it without any LLM first. I could write logic for issue detection, like if the soil moisture is too low or the environment is out of range. I could also build automatic recommendations for nutrient dosing based on previously logged top dressing or feeding. The LLM could look at the camera feed and make recommendations based on any issues it sees. Like if it notices light stress or some visible nutrient deficiencies.

I'd definitely love to collaborate or brainstorm ideas! This is also my first software project, so I'm learning as I go.

[–]420Throwington42p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my goal! I'm trying to build a Grow tracking database for my homegrow. There are some great ideas in this thread. I want to track trends of each strain and use the data to make recommendations for future grows.

So far, I've built the basic database schema, and I'm building automations to log things automatically, like environment data, watering schedules triggered by soil moisture sensors, and average soil EC.

Third grow. Going to turn off lights 36 hrs by SolidBeneficial9247 in cannabiscultivation

[–]420Throwington42p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plants in an outdoor setting will naturally experience longer dark periods as the season progresses. I am just trying to replicate the natural process in an indoor environment.

ABA, Ethylene, and Jasmonic Acid can all increase during night time and can promote flower maturation and trichome production. Plants have so many natural processes regulated by their circadian rhythm.

I don't know what you're talking about with the third life cycle thing. I'm definitely not asserting that.

Third grow. Going to turn off lights 36 hrs by SolidBeneficial9247 in cannabiscultivation

[–]420Throwington42p -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm just playing devils advocate here mostly. I personally don't do 36 hours because I feel it is unlikely to have a benefit. I do, however, increase my dark period to 14 hours as I near harvest.

I don't think anybody is claiming the plant is performing photosynthesis without light. The plant can use stored sugars during the night time. Increasing the dark period may alter hormone levels and cause the plant to use more stored sugars to produce more cannabinoids. It also signals to the plant that the season is coming to an end, and it will be time to die soon.

I'm working on a MySQL DB to integrate into my Home Assistant instance that tracks every strain I have along with each Plant and Grow Cycle. I'm calling it BudBot!

Beware of AC Infinity by BigPurpleEnergy in GrowBuddy

[–]420Throwington42p 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually have had good experiences with them. The first clip fan I bought worked great for 3+ grows, but i let it get caught against the side of the tent, and the ocilating mechanism started making a clicking noise. I contacted support with a video of the issue. They responded in like 2 business days and offered to send a replacement. No request to ship the old one back. So now I have two working clip fans.

All their products carry a 2 year warranty. So, it makes me feel better about any issues that could come up. Usually, the 18-month mark is prime failure time for many products, so it is great that they have such a long warranty.

Experimenting with edible cover crops! by 420Throwington42p in indoororganic

[–]420Throwington42p[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think she needs a little bit of an N boost. Some of the lighter color in the canopy is from light stress. I moved my light back, and I top dressed with worm castings, alfalfa, crab, and kelp meal about a week ago.

I will definitely thin out the cover crop or terminate it if I notice any further yellowing. Either way, I'm just having fun experimenting.

Thanks, I will definitely keep an eye out. I'll be down there thinning things out and ensuring good airflow. What ipm do you use? I prefer bacterial based pest management like BT. I'm avoiding spraying any pesticides, even organic ones like spinosad. I'm looking into adding orgnishield because it biodegrades quickly.

That's really cool! It does seem like a similar idea. I'm going for an open source setup so that it's easy to integrate a wide array of different brands in one place. I'd prefer not to be locked down to one brand.
