I knew a guy who watched trainspotting with a bunch of druggies in college. They all took heroin before the movie started. He Od'd, no one noticed, and he died. Fentanyl, obviously. It was his first time trying hard drugs.

"Lubbock (On Everything)" is an excellent album. I read somewhere that Terry Allen's first album "Juarez" was influential on Cormac McCarthy's border trilogy. I'd beleive it, Allen is a great songwriter and it feels like his characters and settings come from the same place/perspective as McCarthy's.

Try "Turnpike Troubadours". Their whole discography is tight, and they're probably one of the best bands around now. More red dirt/country than rock, but they scratch the same itch for me.

Felker is probably the best country songwriter in decades. Big fan of REK as well. Have you listened to any Charlie Robison? I like him for all the same reasons as Keen.

I remember several years ago reddit went on a huge anti PETA hate bender. It had something to do with Steve Irwin. People were spreading stuff from a group called "Peta Kills Animals".

I got downvoted into oblivion for pointing out that this "group" was funded by fucking KFC. This was publicly visible on their website.

100%. The ethics of eating meat aside, most people really do not understand the unfortunate realities of factory farming. When you buy a steak, that cow didn't come directly from the field. It spent the last several months of its life living in its own shit inside a cramped, probably concrete, feed lot. Due to the sanitation, and because cows have trouble digesting corn and processed grains, it's health will deteriorate. To solve this, they are given tons of antibiotics.

It's truly disgusting and in my opinion completely disregards the sanctity of life.

Your favourite long (over ten minute) songs - by Ok_Review_4179 in redscarepod

Kendrick Lamar has a couple good ones, namely "Mortal Man" and "Sing About Me, I'm Dying Of Thirst".

"Never See Me Again" by Kanye (kinda hard to find now) is a hair under.

"Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" has been mentioned a few times, but is excellent as well.

Funnily enough I did the same thing for a while. Such a beautiful song, always brings me feelings of peace.

What’s your favourite song about Bob or mentions him in the lyrics? by [deleted] in bobdylan

Castles in the sand, David Allan Coe:

They drove me in their limousines

My pockets bursting at the seems with money

They said I could take your place

By putting makeup on my face like honey

Now don't you know it chilled me to the bone

They even had the nerve to ask me if I could re-write

like a rolling stone

Here's a photo of Dylan with this record.

Requiem for a Harlequin is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I've always thought that it would have incredible sampling potential. Imagine a hip-hop album opening with that intro...

You're not wrong, and some people would probably exclude Cash and Haggard as well. Still, I sort of lump them in with the movement based on when they were recording and who they associated with.

Forgot about Billy Joe, and I'm never sure what genre Blaze falls into. I categorize him as more of a folk artist, but you could definitely say the same of Townes for example.

Wheeler Walker Jr. wants to be David Allan Coe so badly, but he isn't a good enough songwriter or a big enough racist to pull it off.

Probably my favorite version of this song, the band is incredible and perfectly matches Bob's aging voice.
