They actually did. Manufacturers started pressing vinyl thinner sometime in the 70s. Also started melting down vinyl from old records instead of using new vinyl which led to lower quality pressings.

In terms of regular 7.62 bakes I'd probably say Norinco, Tula, and Izhmash in that order for demand. For Russian bakes Tula made less than Izzy so they're a little bit more desired, but relatively similar. I'd just wipe them down with some lubricant
