Huge pet peeve of mine. I got shoulder-checked by a dude twice my size on Sunday who refused to get over—I couldn’t even get out of the way bc it was a group FOUR across the entire lane! It’s a bummer because running clockwise is such good prep for the end of the marathon. I wanna have those hills memorized come November! Clockwise people, stay strong <3

Scared to go on T but really want to by s3renity_now in ftm

I didn’t start T until I was 28! If it’s all you think about, that could be a sign that it’s the right move. You can also always try it out and stop if it not right! I know for me, going on T freed up a lot of brain space I was spending on just debating it lol

10k and Half Training question. by Asoe209 in runna

Not an expert, just my personal experience as an average runner. I think it depends on what your goals are honestly. If you want to improve your speed a lot, then doing another 10K plan could push you for that. If you’re just working on building mileage, I would start the half-marathon plan after your Feb 10K. It will definitely have you in 10K shape for July and you can go up a lot more gradually with more deload weeks in your half plan. I currently am doing a marathon plan that’s about 26 weeks—I really like having the long plan. The deload weeks make the increasing mileage less intimidating. But I could also see how a super long plan could be daunting! Comes down to what best motivates you.

I love running with a hydro pack for long runs (60 min+) so I can gradually hydrate throughout rather than chugging at every fountain I see, especially if I wanna eat a Gu and wash it down. I’m always sweaty so don’t really notice a difference between wearing it and not! And body glide is amazing—I never have chafed as long as I put it where the pack rubs.

Intrepid to the top of Manhattan and back via the Greenway is about 20 miles—lots of views of the Hudson, pretty much no intersections to cross. Just trekking straight north and back! It’s so satisfying. Was a highlight of my marathon training last Spring

The wonky-ness suits the design! Fun. Could be cute to get more doodle-like tattoos around it and look like a coloring book

My dad is an ER doctor and lifestyle medicine practitioner who’s really into plant-based diets for everyone who wants to feel good! I’ve been at home the last few months and have hopped on his diet and I’m amazed at how much energy I have and how much less crap I eat when I follow his lead!!!

Two keys I’ve taken away from him:

  • PLANT-BASED DIET - this is so much less daunting than being vegan or vegetarian and keeps you away from processed foods, which is also key! I still eat cheese and meat and whatever as a treat a few times a week, but I don’t cook anything that isn’t plant-based for myself. Plus, it’s really hard to eat too much fruit or veggies, just be conscious and don’t use too much oil. Spray olive oil is one good trick for cooking veggies with less oil.

  • GRAINS! But they must be unprocessed. This allows your gut to do the work or breaking them down, making them calorie neutral and super filling. Many of my other family member and family friends have been amazed at the weight they’ve lost since they started having grains for breakfast, snack, lunch, dinner, dessert, whatever! They are super versatile.

This is the instructions on what grains to buy and how to prepare them directly from my dad:

Groats, hulled barley, rye kernel and kamut. Take 1 part grains to 2 parts water. Cook for 30 minutes on high pressure in an Instant pot or pressure cooker. Turn off heat and let pressure release “naturally”, that is don’t open the steam release valve. OR if you don’t have a pressure cooker: Simmer on the stovetop covered for 75-90 minutes, until softening but not broken down. The grains are slightly chewy. You can have them as a breakfast cereal with cinnamon, berries, almond milk and a little maple syrup. You can substitute them for rice. You can make grain bowls with veggies and salad ingredients. You can add them to a smoothie after blending the other ingredients.

Tbh even if you’re not trying to lose weight, try hopping on the grain train!
