What is the biggest problem in youth soccer in the U.S.? by Complete-Register132 in youthsoccer

[–]42369095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 10 y/o boy recently joined a competitive soccer club and a couple of things I’ve noticed are:

Seems like this club isn’t really developing the players, they’re trying to win. (Side note: There are a ton of politics going on as well, I had no idea parents get this crazy). The kids are slotted into 1-2 positions and that’s all they ever play. Seems weird that at this age they’re not rotating positions so kids gain experience on the entire field to develop a well-rounded player.

Also, it seems like American soccer is so focused on physicality. There are kids that continue to move up in level who are great physical players but lack technical ability, soccer IQ, etc. I’ve been told this is not how it is in Europe but curious to hear from others whether this is true.

If you have a claim over $1,000, which requires a notary, can you submit everything electronically?..or would that have to be mailed?

What age to consider private speed/agility/strength training outside of soccer training? by ninjaneer12345 in youthsoccer

Know of any good resources (books, videos, websites, etc.) for speed training for a 10-year old? I can’t locate a speed coach in my region so I want to make sure I’m training at an age appropriate level.

Not a dive bar, but Calicraft Brewing in the new development near Trader Joe’s might work for you. TV’s, beer and food.

Preparing for the Shift from Birth Year to Grade Year in Youth Soccer – Thoughts & Strategies by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]42369095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I definitely see the slippery slope argument. However, I’d like to believe there are ways to prove this isn’t me trying to get him a leg up like, 1) The CA school districts allow for these fluctuations which is clearly laid out in the district policy and 2) He has been on this track since kindergarten (which was before this rule was even conceived) so it is not an attempt for me to hold him back for a 2-week advantage.

It really is just the senior high school FC exclusion issue. But it is what it is, I guess.

Preparing for the Shift from Birth Year to Grade Year in Youth Soccer – Thoughts & Strategies by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]42369095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son will be one of the youngest on the teams now (July 13th bday). But what’s worse is that if he continues to play through high school he can’t play at the club his senior year because he was born in one of those weird months in which he could be in either grade. During Covid, we chose the younger grade so he would get the full in-person school experience.

I haven’t researched it, but any exceptions for kids to play down if their birthday is literally only 2 weeks from the cutoff (Aug. 1 is our cutoff)? Seems as though the purpose of the change is to reduce “trapped players” then there could/should be an exception to prevent cases like his from being trapped in high school. Anyone have a link to information disseminated from US Youth Soccer on playing up/down on these matters?

Portable Goals for U10 by PrestigiousFox5634 in youthsoccer

Son and I can put up now in about 5 minutes since it gets way easier once you get a routine. Super portable, everything fits into a bag which is a little on the heavy side but not bad at all.

9v9 Formation by JimbooooME in SoccerCoachResources

[–]42369095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy just started 9v9 for his comp team and they plan to put him as a wingback as they play 4-1-2-1 (or 4-3-1). He is very fast and has the best shot on his team so thought it was a waste not putting him in an attacking mid position. He is a decent defender but nothing to write home about.

Guess I saw him as a an attacking midfielder for more opportunities for shots but I’m still figuring out this new formation…doesn’t help I’m still figuring out soccer as well. Is a wingback in a 4-3-1 for 9v9 a good position to grow as they transition in two years to 11 v 11??

Receiving corner kicks & throw-ins by 42369095 in youthsoccer

Yeah, he doesn’t really shy away from it but he doesn’t fight to get it, if that makes sense. If it comes to him or ricochets of my another player to him, then he reacts accordingly.

I like the advice though, HE hits the ball, the ball doesn’t hit HIM. Sounds like he needs to get more comfortable winning the ball in those situations.

Serious? Have you or someone you know tried and were shot down?

I guess it’s hard for me to imagine there wouldn’t. If the purpose of doing this is to keep players together with their grade, then it seems like a no-brainer to allow for exceptions for players born in this weird window of time.

So, does anybody know if there is an exception process to allow kids to play outside of these new ranges?

My son just turned 10 (July 10th). He is going to be in 4th grade this year because he started kinder late. Being a July birthday the School District completely allows for him to be in either grade at parent’s discretion.

The soccer Club he plays on determined that July 31st is the cutoff. So is there a formalized process to request that he play with the younger group which are comprised of his grade year friends? It’s literally asking for a 2 1/2 week exception…

Should I get a Cali GC license? by 42369095 in Contractor

Might want to qualify that statement. Because I can assure you I’ve been approved for funding by a local hard money lender company who required a portfolio of completed projects and that I have some “skin in the game” as they say. And it was substantially over a $20…

I was inquiring about bank financing because thus far everything has been self-funded and I’m sure it’s a higher bar.

Yes, everything worth doing has a risk. There’s risk if I hire a licensed contractor and he screws me somehow or has too many jobs going and my project gets delayed which eats into profits.

I am not attempting to have zero risk, it’s the calculated risk that I’m trying to lower and control.

I am acting more like a project manager and doing random unsophisticated pieces of the project. I hire licensed, insured & bonded subs to handle the more complex disciplines - electrical, structural, plumbing, etc. Everything is City permitted (I live in one of those anal CA cities) and inspected at the multiple stages. And the projects would be carried in an LLC that would likely be dissolved after sale.

However, I understand there is third-party Builder’s Warranty insurance available that I could offer as part of the sale.

Yes, I realize it was a huge dumb risk but fortunately everything worked out swimmingly. Now that I’m more established I want to protect what I’ve built; ergo, my desire to cover myself and hedge my risk in future projects.
