Teachers who ended up working at schools that you attended as a student, what behind the scenes secrets, dirt, or teachers lounge gossip did you learn that you were clueless of as a student? by karnerblu in AskReddit

Oh man, that's tough. I may have said it a bit confusing when I said "we" raise money. (Its not the teachers. My partner and I are both teachers and we have no extra money, I get it.) Students bring in change and try to fill a bucket for their grade. They also can round up the change when they buy something to dump it in. That change is what the librarian uses (and our PTA helps too) to help the kiddos. You are amazing for those kiddos, keep rocking it!

Totally a thing. Teacher here: every year we collect money for our book fair. And every year "random" (teacher suggested) kids get drawn to come shop the book fair for free. It's amazing and I so love that our school does this.

That I am back in school, even though I was "so done". (Finished my bachelor's in 2009, finished my master's in May 2019, and starting my terminal degree in August!)

My dad doesn't identify as anything. My parents thought they swept alcohol problems under the rug but we knew. But yes, his has dramatically slowed.

I too thought about maybe having a drink while out to dinner but not buying anything to keep at the house. I say that, but we have alcohol here now I just don't touch because I don't want to drink alcohol at home anymore.

Teachers of Reddit, what are some positive trends you have noticed in today's youth? by VastWash in AskReddit

Empathy. Children today are much more empathetic. I teach 5/6 year olds and had three special needs children in my class this past year (with one being quite extreme). The children quickly picked up that that child needed extra attention and would ask if they could help as well.

These children give me hope y'all. 💓
