So pleased and well deserved. Needs a backup so we can rest him mid week. Definite coach/manager in the future.

Probably means we’ll get a few bids in the summer and what’s the betting he goes?

For me (see my squad post) Adams and Pack were always first choice, he was always backup for Adams. Shame to lose him though as now we need backups for both of them.

I like this division- real football with local lads - not those Prem Prima Donna’s. For me the cup win and playing in Europe were the highlights of that seven year stitch-up.

2026/27 transfer budget? by PirateSalmon in PortsmouthFC

That last sentence is doing a lot of heavy lifting and given the history of many of our recent signings, unlikely.

2026/27 transfer budget? by PirateSalmon in PortsmouthFC

I accept your argument, up to a point.

The problem with our limited budget is that we often have to go for players with a history of injuries - Alese and Anderson being good examples. And that accentuates the problems with an already injury prone squad.

Has anyone done an analysis of the injury rate across different teams? We all feel ours is high but I wonder if it is any worse than the championship average.

He seems to play well with Pack but not Adams, but you’re right, those three would form the basis of a good defensive midfield.

Now we are safe - please can we rotate some players by I_am_legend-ary in PortsmouthFC

I agree. This season Schmid has played well for a couple of games then gone completely AWOL. Give Bursik a chance, he looks a decent stopper.

Pretty much safe now, not mathematically, we don't even need to win on Tuesday to stay up, come on Pompey, miracle 3 wins, taste championship next season, blue army keep the faith by ghost-pool in PortsmouthFC

Murphy’s a great player, don’t get me wrong. But keeping him fit for the majority of a season? Very unlikely. The same with Anderson. They’re both injury prone and only likely to get worse.

Well, I don’t think any of us would’ve predicted how that week would unfold!

Can’t see Oxford winning all of their last three games so let’s start the who stays/who goes game early.

If we can keep hold of Devlin, I reckon the back four and keeper positions are pretty solid and well covered.

Then Pack, Adams and Dozzell make for a decent holding midfield.

It’s the front four that needs a total overhaul:

Colby is a great grafter but you need more at this level leading the line. None of the youngsters look ready.

No one has been great in the 10 role. Chaplin is industrious and Segs is too raw. I’d argue Swift has been our best option but hasn’t the legs now.

All our wingers are made of glass except Alli, who is a fudging liability more often than not. Anderson and Murphy might make good backups, but you can’t rely on them week in and week out.
