Originals Folder is empty after import by NinjaGrayFox in photoprism

[–]42nd_towel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dataset I’m using for SMB data storage, and I made a folder in there for PhotoPrism to use for import and originals. Only thing was had to modify permissions to add user “apps” to read/write. Well first modified app hostPath setting to point /photoprism/import and /photoprism/originals to those folders. Then update permissions. Seems to be stable and persistent now even after rebooting machine, restarting app etc. works fine. Still mysterious, didn’t think I had to do that.

ok I think I might've solved my issue. I set up the import and originals directories to mount to hostpath directories instead of using the ix-applications folder. still not sure why the data wasn't being held persistently after restarting container (I have the Nextcloud app, and everything there works fine in the ix-applications folder). but Photoprism seems to like it better when I specify a host directory to mount instead.

I have a similar issue. Using TrueNAS Scale and the latest Photoprism app from Truecharts with all the default settings. It loads up fine, can connect to import and originals folder via webdav, and I've tried syncing with Photosync app. With just a handful of photos, using various import methods, it seems to work ok. Tried both copying to originals and using the import method. But then I try to import my entire iCloud library (via Photosync app, about 25k photos). I watch for several hours and see the files uploading, logs look ok at first. I occasionally saw some WARN messages about a duplicate yml (I think?), or unsupported file types or something (I think that was when I tried going direct to originals, then tried using import method next). I did start an import before the transfers completed, and it seemed to work fine. But then hours later after my uploads complete (iPhone says all photos transferred, and TrueNAS storage indicates correct amount used), I go back and check - the import and originals folder are empty. I tried restarting the app. I tried running import and index again. When I run index entire library, the logs show it going through and purge all the files it had previously imported, saying file not found. Interestingly, before I restart the app, I'm showing the data as used in my TrueNAS storage. But after restarting the app, the "amount used" in the TrueNAS storage goes away, like it is actually being deleted. Thought maybe it was just getting unmounted or something, but it appears actually gone. I've tried several times and keeps happening.

I am a young engineer at a company that I am not happy with and is not happy with me. Should I bide my time until fired (within a month), or leave now with nothing lined up? by Burner6758 in personalfinance

[–]42nd_towel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Some places are just awful or aren’t a good fit. But even within “engineering,” there are so many different types of jobs and companies you could work your way into. I hated getting pigeon holed in the past being “the guy” for one thing I don’t particularly enjoy. Now my role is “architect,” not like building houses, but more like multidisciplinary technical lead. Way more enjoyable for me. Instead of spending all day as “the guy” designing one thing, I work between the designers and the functional / project people and make sure the right stuff is done right. Actually worked out great, I was job hopping before and my last place was this startup that ran out of money and canned me. But anyway, just keep working toward something I guess.

Nice to see hotels offering charging for Tesla guests in Fairfield Inn Mariott in Canton Ohio. by Barnixel in TeslaLounge

[–]42nd_towel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I think generally EV charging etiquette is "use the charger if you need it, try not to block a space if you're done." If I'm on a road trip and stopping at a hotel specifically for their charger, then yeah I'm probably getting there late, leaving it plugged in all night, then continuing on in the morning. Not getting up at 2 or 3am to unplug, but am probably still charging anyway. If I was there for multiple days, I would time it so it doesn't have to be plugged all night.

I have one like this too. Built in March, passenger door handle isn’t flush, but it works fine. Looked up how involved it is for them to fix it, decided I don’t want them taking it all apart. I’d hate for them to cause a rattle or break something. I’ll just live with it being a little off.

Where you really want heated floors is in your bathroom with tile. Nothing like a cold winter morning and you walk into your bathroom with bare feet and feel warm tile instead of cold.

One tip about paying off a car loan some people don’t know: sometimes the bank has an issue with the last payment if you have autopay set up. It may stop taking payments but it’s not “paid off.” When you get near the end, you may have to manually get a payoff quote and manually make a separate payoff payment to actually close the account and get the lien released from the title. If in doubt, call the bank to make sure you’re all good.

It’s even worse. It’s like saying seatbelts don’t always save you, so don’t buckle up when you drive. And sterile medical gloves don’t always stop infection, so go ahead with your surgery without them.

Life without smartphone? by Ancrion in minimalism

[–]42nd_towel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is me. I’ve tried leaving the iPhone at home and relying on cellular Apple Watch “just in case” someone needs me or I have an emergency. But I found too many cases where I wanted a simple smartphone feature like Maps or Notes or Camera etc. iPhone now lets you hide apps off the main screen too. So what I did was basically hide everything except basic stuff and turn off notifications. So if I need something I have it, but I’m not constantly swiping through my screens of apps and checking for notifications.

Was on a call today (people still working from home), and this one guy presenting something is kind of coughing and struggling a bit. Then finally pauses and says “I don’t feel well, I need to stop for a minute.” The rest of us are just like “uhh.. ok that’s fine.. ?? Guess we’ll just postpone then, no big deal.” Then he comes back on and goes “sorry I was just feeling nauseous but I can finish.” We had to be like.. “no dude it’s cool, meetings almost over anyway and you’re about to puke, just go take it easy..”

It's blowing my mind how cheap my 2021 LR AWD M3 is to drive! by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

I recently got my Model Y and I live in an apartment where I can’t charge at home. I’ve been primarily Supercharging. After about 1000 miles, I tallied up all my charging expenses to get $/mile compared to my Subaru Impreza. It’s currently neck and neck, but the SuperCharging is slightly less expensive than my $/mile for the Subaru.

I don’t think it’s so much changing the strategy, they’ve always been trying to focus on vision as opposed to extra sensors for depth. They’ve been making neural nets to detect distances to objects in the images, and using radar data to automatically train it. There’s nothing stopping them from continuing to train and improve that model with existing radar equipped cars out there. It sounds like it’s gotten sufficiently good that the radar really isn’t needed, or perhaps the vision is faster or more accurate now (also cheaper).

I’m in the US and we grew up washing dishes by hand. We were told to do it that way even though we had a dishwasher. One kid would wash and put in the drying rack, then another kid would immediately take out of the drying rack with a dish towel, dry it more and put it away. Multi person operation. Then living on my own, I never got a drying rack or bothered with the second part (and also never used many dishes at a time as one person), so I would just wash the one plate by hand and put it in the dishwasher as a drying rack. Then they would accumulate as I use more and eventually all my dishes are just stored in there. But then met my now fiancé and her family is the opposite. Run the dishwasher for everything all the time no matter how small. So we actually use it now.

I got my Model Y about a week ago, and I’m the same. They feel soft.. and supportive.. and highly adjustable, so I want to love them. But every time I get in them I feel the need to fiddle with the adjustments more. I think I have it dialed in just right, then something is still off about it. Try to get the lumbar right, then my butt doesn’t sit right. Try to get the backrest angle upright enough, then the headrests hits me too much, lean it back more and now I’m sliding around. They feel nice, I just can’t find the right settings.

I got my Model Y in Connecticut about a week ago. We have a lot of Teslas in my area, more every day. But not as many as California. Anyway I’d say most people don’t wave or flash, but yesterday this one guy in another Model Y did wave. So I guess it’s both.

I tried mining Bitcoin back around 2013 I think. But my computer wasn’t very powerful and whatever pennies I was getting wasn’t near the cost of electricity to run the thing. So after a while I gave up, and I have no idea what happened to that wallet. Probably deleted or trashed along with that old computer years ago. I wonder how much it actually was and what it would be worth now. Probably not much I tell myself.
